The canoeists were all in the boat club, probably watching the boat race on TV. ;-)

Lysichiton americanus, skunk cabbage, was introduced into cultivation in the United Kingdom in 1901 and has escaped to become naturalized in marshy areas in Britain and Ireland, for example in Hampshire and Surrey, including Wisley Gardens, and in the north and west of the UK. In 2016, it was classified by the European Union as an invasive non-native plant species.

A winding hole allows canal barges to turn round, using nothing but the force of the wind, hence the name.

We had been to this area the day before, and found lots of wild orchids, but the light was harsh, so I returned mainly to take more photos of orchids, and found this as a bonus for the Saturday Self Challenge.

Junk taken from the River Severn. HFF everyone.

Several times this year we have seen junk removed from the river. It gets taken away from the river walkway after a couple of days. Once we cane across a rusting motor scooter along with a couple of push bikes. This is the first time we have spotted a supermarket trolley. The dredging keeps the river safe for all the water sports that have been prevalent this year especially, and that includes river swimming. I must apologise for my lack of visits this week, we have been away.

Keep calm and carry on

Shrewsbury station rail bridge

The original arches were built in 1848 with the outer steel girders added in 1903. There are several blockages of branches by at least two of Shrewsbury's bridges, and a tree trunk is wedged on the weir, After the heavy rain of yesterday and today, maybe some of debris will move downstream.
