This lookout tower is situated almost right next to the inshore and offshore lifeboat stations. The North Sea looks very innocuous here, bur conditions can change very rapidly at the coast, and I think that the undertow on this steeply sloping shingle beach could be fierce at times.

, Leif Fielstrup Guldbrandsen, John Goodwin, Gisela Plewe and 13 other people have particularly liked this photo

Nice capture of this interesting looking building Amelia. Would it have been part of a chain of lookouts, Coastguard perhaps?

I don't know the Suffolk coast well enough to tell you, Doug, but the coast of east Anglia has a lot of Royal National Lifeboat Institution posts along its length, as well as some independent, so it must be considered to be dangerous ones

You may see in the note that the weather was a tad capricious that day, Peter, but it was warm.

This is a place I would LOVE to restore !

I think it might lose some character if it was renovated, Pam. The lookout tower is used by artists and musicians, and seems to be rather more famous than I gave it credit for when I first looked at it.

They can, Reinhard. many of the small coastal villages of east Anglia have been washed away by the sea, including a part of Aldeburgh.

What a great place! I can well believe shingle beaches can be dangerous. I once stood on a small beach in Guernsey and the pebbles started moving under my feet, it was quite scary!
