TSC. The Sunday Challenge. April 16th 2017

TSC. The Sunday Challenge. April 16th 2017
TSC. THE SYMBOLS OF EASTER.
We're looking for eggs, rabbits/hares, Easter bonnets, hot cross buns, fish, palms etc..

Painting a small brown egg using water colours proved to be quite difficult. It started of as daffodils and a chick, which was unsuccessful. After various colour changes it ended up as dribbles of blue and white paint. The finished egg was put back into a saucepan of water where it floated, then the paint started to float away. Eat your heart out Fabergé. ;-)

Eggs were a traditional symbol of fertility and rebirth. The oldest tradition is to use dyed and painted chicken eggs, but a modern custom is to substitute chocolate eggs wrapped in colourful foil, or plastic eggs filled with confectionery such as chocolate.

Christel Ehretsmann, Gudrun, tiabunna, Valfal and 22 other people have particularly liked this photo

Today was cold, windy and a bit rainy, Steve, so I pottered about with my paint box and generally used my time 'profitably';. ;-)

It didn't look so good after a couple of minutes, Nick. The paint gradually slid off the egg and into the saucepan of water. Adrian was going to eat it at lunch time, but I was still fiddling with it until well into the afternoon - several colour changes late. ;-)
Did you enjoy the GP?

Oh this turned out very well Amelia, very abstract and interesting. Are we looking in or is something looking out? :)

I think some 'thing' is peering out at you from the photo, Chris, but don't get too alarmed. ;-)

Thank you, Harriet. I put the egg outside after it started to rain here. There is still some mottling on - but the brown of the shell is beginning to show through. Maybe I'll roll it down a hill tomorrow to crack the shell, and eat the inside.

Thank you, Gillian. The paint was just about running into the water which gibes a bluish tinge around the floating egg.

One of the most creative contributions I'd say so far this week Amelia. It may not have turned out as you'd hoped, but I love the effect and the colours! :)

Reminds me too of hand painting hard boiled eggs as a child which we would then roll down the nearest steep hillside ... not sure if that was just a Scottish thing or not, but it was certainly fun. Kids today just don't know what they're missing out on - lol! ;)

I remember hand painting and rolling eggs down a hill in Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow but I don't think it was just a Scottish thing.
Amelia club has replied to autofantasia club
I don't think it was just a Scottish thing, Paul; but when we moved to England in 1953, I was 12 then, and we never painted and rolled eater eggs there. It was simple fun, and of course sweeties were rationed!
Yesterday the kids in our village had a fine time painting eggs and rolling them down the church bank. Maybe it'll become an Easter tradition again. ;-)
Amelia club has replied to Jean
Did you have to eat the eggs after the painted shells had cracked, Jean? I never did - I don't really like eggs at all, but other folks did. They were at a premium in those days, and too good to waste. ;-)

autofantasia club has replied to Amelia club
Be nice to think so Amelia! :)

autofantasia club has replied to Jean
Doing it in Kelvingrove Park sounds like it must have been fun Jean! :)

Jean has replied to Amelia club
Yes, I ate the egg- there only was one. It was not long after the war and rationing was still in force.

Jean has replied to autofantasia club
The war had not long ended. I was five and it was the first Easter I remember. Don't ever remember rolling eggs again until I was in my sixties and out with the Ramblers. About forty adults rolled their decorated eggs while out on a hill walk

Hey dear Amelia, is this an Egg? in a mysterious kind of way, it seems like someone's eyeball !
Great color, how did this turn out? Ive always sooo loved to sit and color eggs with my 3 grand children. such fun... Hope you found the "Prize Egg" :) Best of wishes, Sarah

Amelia club has replied to Sarah O' club
It is an egg, Sarah, and it's keeping an eye on you! ;-)
Four of my grandchildren are probably too grown-up and sophisticated (for the moment) for this Easter tradition to be of any interest to them. The youngest one is away on holiday, so this sad egg remains in a saucer, unloved and unrolled down a hill. I enjoyed myself though. ;-)

Amelia, back again, I forgot to say that the egg in the pic with the duck dish, made me think of the British Union Jack. :)
Amelia club has replied to Clickity Click
Yes - it does, Chris. I didn't notice at the time as I was just letting the colours run down the sides of the egg. I'm so pleased that someone has taken time to look at the PiPs. ;-).

this is truly fantastic Amelia, I never would have figured it was an egg in a sauce pan, I had all kids of things running through my mind.

Amelia club has replied to Shuttering Yukon
I wonder what was going through your mind, Wendi? Adrian thinks this looks a bit ghoulish, but The Sunday Challenge must be worked on. I spent a good couple of hours with my box of paints and thoroughly enjoyed the time. It's better than looking out of the window at a cold and rainy Easter Sunday. ;-)
