MAA's "Found Math" gallery

Wednesday May 6, 2009 at 01:56PM

If you like math-related images or geometrical abstraction then you might enjoy the images that the MAA (Mathematics Association of America) compiled on their website:

www.maa.org/FoundMath/FMgallery09.html

www.maa.org/FoundMath/FMgallery08.html

www.maa.org/FoundMath/FMgallery.html

You can even submit some to the editor for the 2009 webpage.

You're welcome Siefried.
By the way, I got an email from the Found Math maintainer and he expressed interest in a few of my photos (the yellow dots one, for example) and said one of them would be posted eventually. I'll let you know if I see it pop up there.

Thanks for the links. I used to be a member of the MAA but have not visited their web in quite a while. Are you a mathematician?

Guilty as charged:-)
Are you too Aref?

Aref Nammari (goplayer) replies:
I thought that you might be a mathematician just from the subject of your photographs.
I am not a member of the MAA anymore unfortunately--as my work is not really in mathematics I can't get the lab to pay for membership :(
What is your field of interest? I am very interested in number theory and wavelets (harmonic analysis).

wdjpro replies:
By coincidence, my PhD thesis was in number theory/harmonic analysis, while my advisor (John Benedetto) is an expert in wavelets! That was over 25 years ago. My interest these days is in in the mathematical aspects of error-correcting codes (as opposed to the practical engineering side of thngs), which are used to improve cell-phone reception and reduce "noise" on music CDs, and so on. I'm also interested in image processing because it relates to digital photography.
