I have changed this blog entry a little to give dates to the messages, above each will be a line of dashes that has the date it was sent. ----------------------- 5 Jul 2010 ------------------------------ Hi, I am an amateur photographer and heard about some restrictions regarding photography at Bondi Beach so I came to your councils web site because I want to come to Sydney around Christmas and Bondi is on my list of…
Does everyone use it because it's the best?

Is the only factor in a product becoming successful that is it the best in it's class? The simple answer is No. Lets take the BetaMax and VHS situation as an example. When home video first came out there was a "war" between the 2 technologies. In the end if you owned a Beta machine you binned it and went and got a VHS because none of the video stores stocked Beta movies. Was VHS better? Why did Beta lose? If you are serious about video taping (like TV stations) then you will use Beta, en…
The 'done nothing wrong = nothing to hide' argument
-
August 17, 2010
As you can probably tell from my blog entry I am passionate about photographers rights. On a web site related to photography there was a person that brought out the tired old ' done nothing wrong = nothing to hide ' argument to support their view that the police should be allowed to search your camera and view the photos you have taken. That argument is total and utter bullshit. I have done nothing wrong therefore you have no basis to search me and here is why, privacy. Each and every per…

I have found a bunch of people that I have not seen or heard of in years, some of them since 1987. As my web site I linked to my profile on Ipernity. To that end if they come here I am giving a basic run down of my life since I left school and joined the army. I am going to see if I can link to this post as well. Joined the Army as an apprentice in 1987 and spent 3 years in Albury, graduated at the end of 1989 and was posted to Brisbane at the start of 1990. I spent 5 years in Brisbane at v…
Updated: I tip my hat to Waverley Council
-
July 7, 2010
Back in late 2004 Waverley Council tried to ban all "unauthorised" photography at it's beaches . It caused uproar and the council was reminded that they have no authority to outright ban photography in public places, only the state govt can do that. I became aware of the "Arts Freedom Australia" web site and the information they have about Bondi , it listed permits that the cost is $110/hr to do still photography at the beach. I could not believe that so I visited the Councils web site. We…
Photography is NOT a crime.

I have spent some time reading the blog of Carlos Miller, it is called " Photography is not a Crime " It deals mainly with the USA but idiots that over step their authority happens in Australia too. I myself have been questioned by police while on Mooloolaba beach. I have been told by building security guards that I was not allowed to take photos of it. Security guards are not an authority, they are people OF authority, they get their authority from the building owner. That authority e…

When we bought this house it was for several reasons, the first was price, the second was that we could move in and live in it without requiring to do anything to it before we did. Lastly it was for the potential. One of the first major things we planned to do inside was paint downstairs. My wife wanted to also paint the bricks, I don't like paint straight over bricks it makes it look cheap and you could not be bothered doing anything except buy a tin of paint and a brush, I insisted we rend…
Went out shooting today

I started my "A day in the life of .... " project today, loved it. I got up at 3.30am, was on the train at 4.06am and in the city shooting the Queen st Mall about 5.15am. I shot all day until my second battery ran out, it was just after 5pm. If I am going to do this project in the summer I will need more than 12 hours of shoot time. Time to hit ebay for a third battery. I saw 2 people I recognised, Dr Patel , he was walking in the Queen St Mall and turned in the direction of the court h…

This is not mine but I just had to post it here: An amateur photographer was invited to dinner party with friends and took along a few printouts to show the hostess. "Wow these are very good, you must have a good camera" she commented as she was looking through them. He didn't reply but as he was leaving to go home he said "That was a very delicious meal. You must have some very good pots"

Delinquent Children

This list is not mine but I had to post it here: TWELVE RULES FOR RAISING DELINQUENT CHILDREN! Begin in infancy to give the child everything they want. In this way, they will grow up to believe the world owes them a living. When they pick up bad words, laugh at them. This will make them think they are cute. It will also encourage them to pick up "cuter" phrases that will blow off the top of your head later. Never give them any spiritual training. Wait till they are 21, then let th…

If you read my post you will have seen that I am starting a new project. It is a multi-part project, I am calling the overall project "A day in the life of..." What should I call each part that is a new location? Each of them will be a project in themselves beneath the over arching umbrella project. Should the umbrella be called a theme and each section is called a project? What do you think?

While we traveling in Europe the people we met knew Australia was big but I don't think they really knew how big. I did up this graphic overlaying Australia with Europe. What you also have to remember is that Australia only has a population of just over 21 million. I have coloured some of the countries and here are their populations: Blue = Germany, 82 million Green = France, 62 million Orange = UK, 61 million Purple = Netherlands, 16 million Yellow = Belgium, 10 million Total of…
We have a puppy (Update with photo)

October 2, 2009
We adopted a puppy from the RSPCA today, she is a beautiful tiny little white Chihuahua cross Minature Fox Terrier. We have been promising the kids that we will adopt a dog from the RSPCA since before we went overseas. We have been looking at the Adopt a Pet web site for weeks, so we knew what sort of dogs came up for adoption and how long they were usually there. Small dogs went fast, small pupppies went faster. We wanted a small dog and the day we were leaving Paris we saw Gemma come up…

I am seperating the photos I upload here. This account is going to be for my "arty" type photos, I have started anouther account that my wife is going to use to upload "family" type photos. Sometimes a photo will fit into both and I will upload it to both. We visited lots of relatives on our holidays with e-mail, Ipernity and Skype it will be much easier to keep in contact with them, that's what the second "family" album is going to be for.
In Paris

September 26, 2009
We have arrived in Paris for our final 3 days. Today we went into the city and walked through the Louve. 5 hours is in no way enough to do the place justice. That's all we had before we all had sore feet and just wanted to go back to the hotel for a rest. Of course we saw the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo. It was a saturday and the place was packed, maybe we should have left the Louve for a weekday... ah well. Tomorrow is another day and we have no idea what we are goinng to see. I would…
