Eine neue Reise steht bevor: am 30.08. wird mich eine Gastvorlesung in Bern in das Land der luxuriösen Uhrwerke und Schokoladen, Heidis und Geißenpeters, und nicht zuletzt der fotogenen Berge verschlagen :-). Danach geht's für eine Woche weiter nach Grindelwald, und auf dem Rückweg werde ich am 07.09. noch eine kurze Zwischenstation in Zürich einlegen. Ist jemand von Euch in der Gegend und hat Lust auf ein Meetup, oder Tips für Sehenswertes? Ich bin jedenfalls schon sehr gespannt :-)

...als dass man sich das auch noch härter machen müsste :-) Ich bin am Freitag (04.07.) beruflich in Kiel und ziehe bis Sonntag dann nach Hamburg weiter. Als Exil-Nordrheinwestfale werde ich von meiner Umgebung in Franken zwar als Nordlicht wahrgenommen, aber in Wirklichkeit ist der Wilde Norden noch eine völlige Terra Incognita für mich... Habt Ihr Tipps zu fotogenen Plätzen oder (wenn Ihr vor Ort seid) Lust auf ein Ipernity-Käffchen/-Bierchen oder -Fototour? Ich freue mich jedenfalls…

Wild und ungestüm krachen die Wellen auf die Küste, getrieben vom Wind und der unsichtbaren Anziehungskraft eines unerreichbaren Mondes. Die hoch aufschäumende Gischt macht unmissverständlich klar, dass das Meer nicht rasten wird, bis auch der letzte Kiesel zu feinstem Kristallsand zermahlen ist. An der Küste vor Karlovassi befindet sich die Ruine einer uralten Fabrik. Zwischen ihren bröckelnden Wänden aus rauhem Bruchstein kämpft das Rot der herabgestürzten Dachziegel mit dem Grün der Vegetation, die ihren ursprünglichen Lebensraum selbstbewußt wiedererobert. Jeder Schritt ist wohlüberlegt, um nicht in sich jäh öffnende Brunnenschächte zu treten oder sich in den ausufernden Tentakeln der Büsche zu verfangen. Geheimnisvolle Betonbassins dienen, sich selbst überlassen, nur noch der Zucht…

Auf einem Sonnenblumenblatt im Hotelgarten sitzt, fast unsichtbar, ein flacher grüner Käfer. Seit er sich zurückerinnern kann, krabbelt er über Blätter und gelegentliche Stiele - er liebt es, die feinen Härchen der Blätter gegen seine sechs Beinchen streifen zu fühlen und freut sich über den sicheren Halt, die sie ihm geben, wenn die Blätter immer wieder in eine unerklärliche Bewegung geraten. In der Morgendämmerung schlürft er begierig die schillernden Tautropfen, und in der Abenddämmerung…

After a month of exploration in Hongkong and Australia, I've finally arrived back home. It's been a most amazing trip, which brought so many new and fascinating sights, people and photo opportunities. Especially meeting you guys, gals (and a dragon) in Brisbane and Sydney made this trip special - thank you for the great (though much too short) time we had together :-) I still have a bunch of raw undeveloped stuff sitting on my harddrive - so in the next days I'll be uploading some more imp…
2nd Day in Hong Kong

On our second day in Hong Kong we took a bus tour through the main island. Especially the Man Mo temple was a fantastic sight. The day closed with a thunderstorm which brought little rain, but a lot of lightning.
Hong Kong Stopover

Hongkong has been a fantastic (but humid) hotbed of activity on my stopover to Australia. Amazing colours and fragrances and beautiful sights from the skyline to the people thronging the busy street markets in Mong Kok. I've just uploaded a few pictures from my first day here yet, but more is to follow soon :-)

I'll be embarking on the biggest trip of my life (so far :-) on thursday: I'm visiting a conference on medical informatics in Brisbane next week, and of course there've got to be some holidays around it :-) So I'll pass through Hongkong this weekend on my way to Australia, and then Brisbane is next - I'm looking forward to wonderful photo opportunities :-) If any of you are located on the way or coincidentally travelling along the same lines - I'd love to organize/be part of an Ipernity me…
A home away from home

Here I am, another Flickr expatriot, setting up shop on a provisional basis here in Ipernity. It looks nice, so far, and I can already see many familiar faces over here :-) I sure miss the groups feature, and the UI over here doesn't have the polished look and feel I've become so used to at that other place - but hey, this place is just in its infancy, and many more good things are to be expected. Enjoy your stay at Tr1stero's place :-)
