The default setting is "All your contacts".
You can change that setting by going to your parameters page / "Photos and other content" section.

And what would be the plus? I could already delete all comments I don´t want to get.
How should I set it if I want photos added to my photos as comments (maybe to allow others to show me another perspective of my photo, or to show what they did proposing in their comment by an example), but not these group - banners which are so stupid annoying?
And what will you do with "Your history", how did you plan to get it free of this group-announcing spam? Lea said something about it, f.e. here. But it won´t help just to say something about it, if they are popping up (or should I mention - pooping up?) everywhere and anytime. It would help to not having to delete a comment under my photos every few hours, but it won´t help for getting following comments after mine spam-free.
I prefer to get notications about who have answered my comment, or who have commented and what they did after I commented at a photo because I´m allways interested in communication and discussing what I´d comment), but I won´t like to see these annoying group- banners in my "Your history" just because somebody post them as a pseudo-"comment" after I comment at a photo.
"Comment" means something textual to read. Something more like "Nice photo, seen in this and this group and we are using this and this banner to advertise the group". It means something more specific to a given comment by me under the photo of others.
Otherwise there´s no possibility to comment or faving anybodies documents because I can´t avoid to get spamed by this guys in MY "Your history". "Your history" got something like useless, it looks like my spamfolder at my mailprovider recently. My own photos aren´t the main problem with these spamming, my contacts are well-filtered and mostly won´t spam my photos. The main - hole for spam popping up at my account are comments under the comments I posted at others which will shown in MY OWN "Your history". A place I won´t like to see spam.
THIS wasn´t a solution against spam in comments. Not at all. Sorry, ipernity. Just a nice try. Hmpf. ;-(
So - what did you plan against this kind of spam, when did you want to take actions (and not just like Lea did by talking about it)?
to HISTORY ... on the right hand side when you look at your history ..there are two
options ... one is DIRECT COMMENTS to you ... and the other shows ALL COMMENTS
(I think its ALL comments, don't shout at me if I have the words a little wrong) but in
essence ... click on DIRECT COMMENTS to YOU and you will ONLY see the reply
to yours ... this way you can reply back ... and its quick and easy and a great feature,
and you do not have to see everything else on the page .. just the latest reply to
yours ... o0o
with regard to graphics ... ok I will jump in here now ;-) and wish to thank ipernity staff
for making it relatively clear to us all and I am sure as the days and weeks go on, we
will become more familiar with what it all actually means, I have not found the option
yet to stop graphics/pictures being added to a comment box, but will taken a look,
but one thing does this "choice" mean once chosen it stays by default or does it
revert back each time we log on. I ask this because the picture size choice we now
have (and thanks for this) does not stay how you have chosen ... it reverts back to
what might be classed as standard setting. Same with the groups ... this option is
now there also (thank you for this too) but can we "choose and set" this to remain
our choice ? it would be helpful. The sticky in groups for threads is brilliant, thank
you.
btw ... my thanks to the Ipernity Staff for addressing the situation and hope that rules
will be followed and abided by everyone and its not easy I am sure to run a site that
started grow with the influx of those of us from Flickr. We came because we liked
the fresh new look ipernity had and the opportunities to enjoy and make new friends,
I hope it continues that way. It used to be said "Flickr is for Fun" well it stopped being
fun, which is why we chose to come here, lets keep it fun here too, yes ? ;-) o0o
ୱ Kiezkickerde ( ͡°… club has replied to beverleyAs an addition: It seemed like not everyone realizing that there´s a difference between a general comment and an answer to a specific comment and posting answers as general comments, too.
My image-sizing or the view will stay as you set it after login again. If it changed back every time again it might be the case because you don´t allow your visitor to chose their own display-size so it will be set to your givin size every time. Or because you had visited a group and change the display-size there- then- for the moment - the size of your displaying outside a group will be change to that view, too, but ipernity mentonied here that they will change this issue.
"who can add photos to comment box" mine was set on contacts
only and so I guess I had already got this in place without realising,
and so graphics would NOT have been added to my comment boxes
because I do not belong to any groups that use them, Sorted ;-) o0o
Also a special thanks to Peppe for banning me from Beautiful Capture merely for expressing my view in support of graphic awards! I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings and leave a group to join. Now you finally gave me the chance to join EXPLORE 4U that Bev has been asking me to join for a long time! :)
It is because of this change that I'll become a club member very soon.
I agree that you have done your best and I think that those still complaining will just continue to complain because they cant not seem to be able to "live and let live" . It's there way or no way and by the comments they have posted here and everywhere else It will always be THEIR WAY OR NO WAY. To them I say show respect to others and do not continue to dictate to the majority.
Regards Tess.
To the "pro" graphics members ... just a continuation of your enjoyment here interacting with the others.
A very big bonus to the "con" graphics members ... as this has broaden your horizons here at Ipernity and you just became more inclusive to "all" groups on Ipernity ... as it should be.
Just imagine ... you can now join all and any groups ... graphics or non-graphics and if you have your settings correct, you will not receive a "graphics award" from any group on Ipernity ... thus you now have "full" participation to the community at large ... where once you did not want to join a graphics award group for fear of getting one of these on your comment section. I fully understood your reasoning and your rationale ... and was totally accommodating ... however I could not control all of the thousands of members ... this solution, I do not have to worry how the members comment!!
This enhancement allows you the Ipernity member "direct control" of what you want ... It is like "blocking" an unwanted member here, only now you can "block" an unwanted graphics code!!
I do not think Ipernity could have done any better than this and as far as I am concern, it is a total resolution to this issue.
Bravo, a job well done by the Ipernity Team, excellent piece of work!!
Sincerely Art
Treasa Ui Cionaodha has replied to LeapFrogAnd also welcome to the club and consider your banishment a badge of honor for standing up against intolerance and dictatorship! These are certainly terrific virtues as can be attested by the outpouring of support for Nelson Mandela who stood up for freedom, tolerance, and peace!
BUT that being said I have to say to Peppe to STOP BANNING MEMBERS WHO DISAGREE WITH YOU! It is not right! If you want to now ban me, then so be it.
On the other hand I have seen some members who have publicly stated that they will not comment on a photo if the graphic code option is turned off. How childish is that! I have chosen to allow my contacts that option, but WILL NOT add every member of my groups as a contact. And since that is the default option I fear a lot of future new members to ipernity will perhaps be left out of receiving comments when they join some groups.
I belong to a set of groups led by a great contact (Art) that does supply a small comment code and an OPTIONAL graphic code...please note the stress on OPTIONAL. From the very beginning he made it clear that everything would be done to ensure no graphics would be used if you didn't want them. An OPTIONAL code is the only solution to a situation like this and people should not be punished for only allowing contacts/friends or family the ability to leave graphics.
As well, those of you who will not bother commenting on photos that HAVE graphics in the comments I just have to say that you will also be missing out on some of the most beautiful shots out there.
Come on people...lets just try to be friends. Or at least more accepting of each other. Sorry to sound so Canadian.

We do all indeed have choices and I joined Ipernity nearly three years ago but was not active, until this May. I did check with ipernity staff, having read their guidelines on groups which were made clear before May 2013 and wished to clarify before I opened any groups, to ensure that I could indeed use a one line comment award that linked back to the groups. This was confirmed, that I I could use them. It was my decision to ask first and seek assurance from ipernity staff that I would not be contravening any site rules that I had agreed to on joining ipernity. Clarification because, I am not French, I do not speak French and would prefer to seek clarification before rather than cause problems. That said, that is now out of the way, but would like to address the question of choices.
Yes within the confines of Ipernity and its criteria, we have choices. If we wish to receive just comments from contacts, it makes sense to me to not join groups that use awards and then the problem does not arise on anyones photostream and comment box. If anyone is considering joining a group, then the group's criteria is (or should be) shown on the front page of the group, explaining perhaps what is expected / required of its members. I am aware on joining ipernity that there are many groups formed (perhaps in the main a long time ago) and require little or no interaction between members within the group. Again, choices, and am sure many will say, I do not wish to re comment on my contacts photo when I see it in a group pool and I can quite understand that point of view. Time is precious to all of us ;-)
This raises the question maybe then of ipernity and explore. Many will use groups and collect awards, comments and faves (and why not if they enjoy this) to hopefully feature in ipernity explore. To this end I suspect that many ipernity members will fall into groups of people who do not like to see all of this "traffic" when visiting their contacts photostreams. Maybe this has come about because of the huge graphics that we now see in Flickr. Many are enormous, I think that no one will deny this who has come here from Flickr. Many to escape how it has evolved and I am sure many more will follow. I hope they do, ipernity is a brilliant site for photography and have to say, the attraction to ipernity was for the appreciation shown by the members here and the comments on pictures we posted.
Bravo to the members of ipernity here before us for making us welcome, contacts and commenting. I suspect many with the changes about to take place yet again on Flickr, will come and join us here. My wish is that when they come and they look and they read, that they do not think, what have I come here for ! just to read and see what has been happening here (I do not mean stating a different point of view, that is everyones choice) and they think why did I bother I may as well have stayed at Flickr. This would be a great shame, if this was to happen.
Ipernity have tried their best to come up with an alternative that suits everyone. I applaud that. It might not be 100% acceptable to all, but I have so far found ipernity staff to be aware, to listen, and to change where they can to accommodate everyones wishes. Thank you ipernity staff for your consideration of everyones requests. Ipernity is different, thank goodness for that, its why we are here ~ yes ? enjoy your weekend, the groups, your contacts and have fun that is what photography is all about.
Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to beverleytone of things had progressed !
Those of us who have set up groups and endeavoured to make them interesting for
those who might like to be part of a group, there has to be "group criteria" as indeed
the forming of ipernity, had to have guidelines and criteria otherwise it is organised
chaos. With groups the founder/admin has the right (within ipernity guidelines) to
open up and introduce their group and run it how they wish.
For those who may not have looked at HOW TO open and run a group, there are decisions to be made before going "live" and this involves "choices" by each admin as to how they wish to run their group, the sort of images they wish to attract if it is a specialist subject or perhaps a general group for every subject. Pictures may be square format, maybe on black, the list is endless and is interesting to decide the theme. Group rules/criteria is
for the admin to decide (within ipernity guidelines) as to what the subject is, how many images can be added etc and then there is the question of whether the group is a "storage place / gallery " to display pictures and as in real life there is the hope that others will come and look and enjoy and show appreciation.
This I think is where the crux of the matter lies. By giving the "option" of a one line group comment award it allows the member to see who appreciated their picture in the group, who took the time to hopefully comment as well. This allows us to hopefully share in
the experience of appreciation not just of our own contacts but the possibility of meeting new contacts and getting inspiration from others. That is the best scenario, I think a choice of an optional award but where it states, personal comments are welcomed by everyone. This meets most needs I am sure. The admin decides when they open their groups, what the group criteria is going to be (within the ipernity guidelines) always.
I would like to say that on a personal note, to have anyone post their photos to a group, where obviously they are hoping to have their picture looked at and appreciated, then is it not fair that that is also reciprocal ? Many do not do this. They are happy to collect comments/faves and awards but do not enter the spirit of the group they joined. That I think is rather a shame and they miss out on the friendships that can be formed by mutual interaction.
I would say to everyone, each admin has to decide when they open their group, what their rules / criteria is going to be (within ipernity guidelines) and if this means that some members may be deleted because the criteria in the group is not followed, then always feelings are going to possibly be hurt. Remember, photography is for fun and sharing, read the groups criteria first, then "choose" carefully whether you wish to join or not.
Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to beverley@ Team Ipernity - Could those possible group rules be displayed somewhere all the time, instead of displaying them only when user is joining the group?

Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to beverleyThat is one solution, which I have seen done on many groups. It then makes me wonder if the rules page is a working solution at all when people seem to put the group rules elsewhere.
ୱ Kiezkickerde ( ͡°… club has replied to beverleyI´m so over with all these "Seen in this group, admired in the other group" which is spreading this wide recently in all comments if a photo was added to a group.
Could you please, please provide an automated referer-link to every comment which was shown if someone really wants to see this information?
Maybe implemented like the permalinks are provided in comments, so it won´t be displayed all the time in every single comment as text, but provided by ipernity itself if someone is really interested to know from which group an user is comming who has commented a photo.
This would resolve all these additionally "Seen in" - comment - shit in minutes.
If after that still anyone typing (or copying) in this texts anyway it´s no doubt it´s just for spaming and providing some advertisement for a group because the information is already given by ipernity itself´s functions...
It shouldn´t be this complex to read-out the given referer-string by the browser and put it in such a field and it doesn´t work just for groups, it works for everything like userspaces, google, everywhere as long as the browser is providing this information...
What's the mayhem about ?! The inevitable battle of egos ?
Some people do take themselves SO seriously it's frightening ..This is LEISURE ,.. no?
Could you not perhaps discuss your personal issues in private ?

Now, having received 30+ group suggestions on one of my photos recently (which took 60+ clicks to get rid of, mind you), I can certainly fit that into the definition of spam.... However, it's a better compromise than leaving those who want their groups to function like communities such an incredibly limited way of recruiting new members. There is nothing wrong with group members wanting to increase membership and activity in groups they belong to.
ୱ Kiezkickerde ( ͡°… club has replied to FizgigMost of the old running groups who are founded six years ago are running in this "all users are equal" - style, at least as long until some people are joining ipernity which seemed to be have some other suggestions how to drive a group and tend to be acting like if they are gods just because they´d founded a group - they don´t want participation like this because they can´t deal with users which are at the same level like theirself.
At least after being a part in this discussion it seems to be clear that it depends by the members of the given group if the group is working with hundrets of administrators or moderators this nice. I suggest if some of the guys who are discussing here will join the team with their destructive attitude the groups won´t last pretty longer without causing some trouble because the additions by others would be get spammed instead of discussed and the group-rules would changed to by adding some "additional comment-code" to the group.
After reading the first answer at my suggestion it seemed to be clear that it wasn´t to inform the photograph where they came from to use their comment codes, it´s just for advertise their groups otherwise they won´t have any problem _where_ this information is provided as long it is.

Since you sneakily deleted my earlier comment I have decided to repost it so that anyone reading this thread will see just who you are. I hope the ipernity team reads all that is in this thread, so they will also see the 'little man behind the curtain'.
I visited your account to send you a mail pointing out that the title of this discussion includes 'NEW RULES' and perhaps talking some sense into you. What I found was that you had made EVERY ONE OF MY CONTACTS your own contact. WHY!!! Half of my contacts rarely post here and I doubt that not even a handful belong to your group. I have a couple of contacts that I have faithfully followed for over a year and yet I hardly share any contacts with them. Strange indeed methinks!
On flickr they have a phrase in the guidelines about not being creepy...'That Guy'...& I feel that your stalkerish behaviour fits that label perfectly. I have left your group (already forgotten what it's called) and have blocked you...the first time I have ever felt the need to do that...so that you can no longer spy on my friends thru me. I feel like I have just showered scum off myself.
On a side note: I find the fact that censoring comments you don't like or agree with very disheartening considering your European background. The sacrifices made so that you can speak your mind applies to everyone!
Goodbye Peppe...you don't deserve my time anymore!
Jim
ୱ Kiezkickerde ( ͡°… club has replied to %name%I have seen people blame Ipernity Terms of Service (TOS) as not clear. However, I think TOS is clear enough. More likely TOS could become unclear if made any longer and more detailed in order to clarify every possible aspect.
For example I have seen someone saying there is a contradiction between title 'Group guidelines' and URL of that page saying it is about 'grouprules'. However, one should read through the TOS section 1.2. Therefore it should be clear one has to accept and follow also group guidelines, and if there is said something like what one shouldn't do, then that should be taken as a rule.
I have seen a lot of debate on what is SPAM, promotion or an award. For me it is clear. When said on Group guidelines: "Do not use the comments and especially not graphics in the comment section to promote or suggest content for a Group", I understand this: "Do not use the comments to promote a Group." I hate taking anything out of context but as far as I have understood, that is what the rule on this matter says. I repeat: "Do not use the comments to promote a Group."
So, we again have to ask, what is an act to promote something? For me it does not change the act no matter what we call it. Rhino does not change to zebra only by calling it with another name. If then someone says it even as mildly as: "Thank you for your contribution at Group X", then it still can be interpreted as an act to promote Group X.
And what comes to this very blog post by Team Ipernity, I do not see here anything that has changed the current Group guideline/rule mentioned above. We now got a nice tool to disable graphics on comments, but the rule still says: "Do not use the comments to promote a Group." I personally changed the settings to allow graphics only from my family and friends, to allow them to illustrate their comments. But even if my friends would start to post SPAM in my comments, illustrated or not, I would first give a warning and then report them to Team Ipernity.
But now I try to get to the suggestions part.
First of all I suggest all of you not to join any group if that group is against your opinion. In other words, do not join to groups where group administrators or moderators keep on posting anything that can be interpreted as an act to promote their group. That is a very easy solution to avoid getting any such thing on comments of your pictures.
Then I suggest groups start to make it clear in their group rules whether they are so called 'Award groups' or not'. But especially if they are an 'Award group'. At least I would like to be warned in advance whether I will start to receive comments, which can be interpreted as an act to promote the group, if I join the group and start to contribute there.
I also suggest we only worry about what is happening on comments of our own pictures. By simply avoiding to contribute 'award groups', one should not get any comments that one does not want. On the other hand, we should respect those who find awards as a nice way to thank each other. So, if someone does not see them as a problem, and do not fuss about them, then it should be no one else's business to start making number out of it. In other words, only the author of the picture should decide what one sees inappropriate on her/his comments.
To Team Ipernity I suggest to change the official 'Suggest a Group' function a little. Instead allowing the contribution immediately, the possible group rules should be displayed first. That way one should be given a chance to find out what the group is about before accepting the invitation to contribute. Currently I have started to do it by myself. I first go to group to find out what it is about before I just accept any invitation to contribute. And that can be taken also as a suggestion to anyone around here. Before you accept the official invitation to contribute some group, please first find out what rules that group possible has. That way you avoid breaching their rules.
These are only my personal opinions and humble suggestions. Please do not stigmatize any of my friends or groups where I am a member, based on these personal opinions of mine. I have also done mistakes around here, even terrible ones, and then tried to do my best to correct them.
You are one entertaining person ... something like a clown at a circus, LOL ... Peppe the Clown ... hahahaha ... I do not come here often, but when I do, I just end up laughing my butt off at your ludicrous imaginative comments.
Awww ... you poor "little" fellow Peppe ... a schoolyard bully like you finally getting his lickings from the community at large!!
As the saying goes, if stupidity were a trumpet, you would be an entire brass band ... please post some more of your rants ... you certainly provide the rest of us with lots of mediocre entertainment in-between us enjoying Ipernity for photography and building relationships with others ... something you have and will never understand ... LOLOLOL!!

PS: I am glad that Ipernity had you take down that photo you posted for copyright infringement ... and by the way ... you broke the Terms of Service (TOS) of Ipernity. I guess if you do this again, you maybe removed from Ipernity for good ... we are all waiting Peppe!!
You have supplied links to where to get the codes, but neglect to supply the links that clearly spell out that Art would do everything in his power to not have codes used on photos if not wanted. Something he has stated in every one of his groups.
I only interacted with Art since coming here and can say that the way his groups run and the time and effort he puts into them are an example that all other admins can learn from...especially you!
Once again, your purposeful omition of all the facts show you for what you are. You would make a perfect news reporter in China, North Korea etc. Maybe we can all take up a collection to buy your airfare to one of those countries...I'll put up the first $100.
