OpenID

Monday October 1st, 2007 at 04:25PM

[EN] you can now sign-up and sign-in using OpenID. OpenID is an identity system allowing you to authenticate to several sites with the same name and password. It could become a standard in the future, since major internet companies like Orange (40 millions users in France) have decided to switch to OpenID. We'll study soon the opportunity of opening ipernity to other 3rd-party identity systems. This is an alternate way to connect to ipernity, targetting OpenID users. If you use to login with your email and password, don't change anything!

Mh, I don't like getting IDs together. *IMO* it is a violation of privacy, a central point of data accumulation. I hope ist will never become mandatory :-(

No worry, this is an alternate and additional system, designed to welcome OpenID users. We'll always keep original email+password login method.

That's good to know, because a little bit this reminds me of Flickr forcing us to merge with Yahoo! - before everything went to hell over there. But now I am confident that we don't have to fear anything like this here in our new home. Thank you for confirming this!

This is more a France-based service, isn't it?

Team ipernitypro replies:
Absolutely not. This is an open source project led by a worldwide community. More info here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenID

Thanks for the info! Sounds great, but i like my passwords not combined in one service (unless it’s something similar to my banking card system with cardreader for online banking *g*)

Have you changed something else in the signin process in the course of installing openID? Since a few days I can't sign in with the Safari browser any more :-/

Pandarinepro replies:
Same here: Since yesterday I cannot sign in with Firefox anymore, only in IE. And several other people have the same problem, please check this!

OK, so it was a problem of a foul cookie here; after deleting cookies I'm able to sign in again with Safari as well.

I'll try that on my laptop tonight , maybe it helps.

indeed, we had a "cookie" problem this week-end. Now it's solved. Apologize for that.

You write "If you use to login with your email and password, don't change anything!"
but what is the purpose of www.ipernity.com/pref/sso then? Is it so that you can change form your "old password" to an OpenID-password there?
