John's Simnel Cake
John's Simnel Cake
I may not be blogging regularly, but I have not been unoccupied. Friday is cake day at school, and we teachers take it in turns to provide the cake. For me, it's a rare opportunity to bake something traditionally English. I've worked my way through various seasonal sweatmeats over the last three years. When my turn came on Friday, I decided to have a go at a Simnel cake - something I've never made before. In fact, I don't think I've even tasted one before. I pulled out recipies from various places on the Internet and also from cookery books. My colleagues are a very good audience (if that's the right word). By the end of the day, everything has always been eaten. No exception this time. Thanks to Janne F for taking the picture. On the noticeboard behind my left shoulder see the twin daughters of one of my colleagues.
