I quite forgot to tell you that we had snow yesterday...proper snow. It was everywhere...then the sun came out and it melted.
Ancestry seems a bit like hard work at the moment..I keep flitting between people from the 1900's to those who lived in the 1200's and I'm getting slightly befuddled by them all...lurching from traitors to the Crown to a humble ag lab makes it interesting I suppose but I have too many people to keep a proper track of...just over 12,000 to date and that doesn't include any of Himselfs people...goodness only knows how to put them all into some kind of tree so they'll all match up.
I did have a think about a roll of cheap wallpaper...that's the easy part...the hard part is writing them all down in proper order...start at the bottom and work up or start at the top and work down...
It was another bitterly cold day today so I decided to sort out the plastic boxes...the ones you use to put left-over's in the freezer. It took me about five minutes to get fed-up to the back teeth with trying to find the right lids for the right boxes and having loads of lids left over without a sight of the boxes they belong to...
So, I shoved them into a cupboard and shut the door.
Then I bottled the Blackcurrant wine...it smells quite nice...very sort of fruity. And the Blackberry Whiskey which actually smells decidedly peculiar...I confess to having a little taste and it didn't taste any better than it smelt so I hope it improves with age...
Had a bit of a wander around outside but the wind was icy so I filled the birdfeeders up and beat a hasty retreat indoors...last night was feckin' awful actually...strong winds rattling the barn roof which is a bit iffy at the best of times...then the moon came out and shone as bright as could be so it was like having all the lights on at two o'clock in the morning...then it went awful quiet and very cold. And I kept having cramps in my toes...they point in all different directions and are really painful.
So I wriggled about and muttered and then had a stupid dream about looking after pet rats...as if.
Himself is still getting up a million times in the night to go to the loo so I'm still sleeping on the settee with Eilis...she snores and grumbles under her breath when I poke her but she is warm...like a furry hot water bottle. Oddly enough I never hear Himself get up while I'm sleeping on the settee...but if I was in the bed, I'd be wide awake every five minutes. Then I'd be bad tempered and cross in the morning...
I start getting a bit stir crazy around about now actually...dark mornings and dark afternoons, I get restless and a bit grumpy and can't wait for the Spring, which is plain silly when you think. Hibernation seems to be an altogether excellent idea...but I suppose we'd still have to eat and have a bath and go to the loo...
Our bathroom is positively freezing...the water might well be scalding hot but it cools down quickly and you find yourself splashing water about in a fruitless attempt to keep above the level of frostbite before admitting defeat and scrambling out covered in goose pimples to snatch a towel from the stone cold radiator...my baths in wintertime last on average of three minutes...forget soaking in aromatic bubbles while browsing a glossy magazine...it's in and out and hoping I remembered armpits...
The very best bathroom ever was in my cousin Ginny's house...it was enormous for a start...and it had a huge old claw footed bath that needed gallons of water and it had an open fire...and a old fashioned radiator. The sort you used to see in schools years ago and were told not to sit on 'cos you'd get piles...one of those. There was an easy chair and hundreds of seriously soft fluffy towels...it was total and absolute bliss to have a bath in Ginny's house...
We're having something with eggs for supper tonight and potato cakes...mostly because I'm too befuddled to think of anything healthy and nutritious...
