We'd planned on going into Roscommon town today to tax the car but then I remembered Heatons have their 10% off day for old people on a Tuesday so we'll go tomorrow 'cos I need some cushions...can't find just plain ordinary cushion pads now for some reason so I'll get their plainest ones and put my patchwork covers on...

It's been blowing a gale and a half again today and the leaves are being stripped off the Willow trees whether they are ready to come off or not...heaps of them all over the garden paths...I found a couple more ripe Plums that'd come off the trees so ate them before I fed the cats...took the peel off in case some slimy slug had been there before me though...the little black cat had a tick right over his eye...honestly, you'd think I was intent on murder the fuss he made over me yanking it out...he squirmed about and batted me with his paws and yowled pathetically while his tick free brother looked on in pure astonishment...then, when I'd finally grasped the tick and squashed it...his brother slapped him sharply across his face with his furry paw...

I did manage to nip out to the hedge between the downpours to pick another bowl of Blackberries...I want to start another bucket of wine off and as there's a half bottle of Whiskey left over I might do another jar of Blackberry Whiskey as well...bottles of that would make good Christmas presents for the neighbours...little bottles mind you...not big ones! Did I tell you about the year Himself made a hanging bird table for one set of neighbours? It was a very good bird table indeed and we'd wrapped it all up and then we went to hand it over and it was met with exclamations of delight and big hugs and that sort of thing...but they thought it was a model of the stable where Jesus was born....we sort of sidled away and came home...

But most of this afternoon was spent sewing...I like shutting myself away for a while and cutting and measuring and putting it all together is very satisfiying...not that Himself ever notices a new cushion cover or a table topper...I have to sort of hold it up in front of him and waggle it about...but he did put the lecky blanket back on the bed today and made the bed up with clean sheets and an extra blanket 'cos it's awful chilly in the evenings and at night now...we've lurched straight from an Indian summer into Autumn.

The next big event in our lives is when T and Reuben come over to stay at the end of October...they've just returned from a holiday in Kenya looking at moth eaten lions and scabby elephants...I think their holiday with us includes November Day...we'll drag them round the huge painted horses with feathered feet and the handsome Gypsy lads riding ponies bareback...it would be lovely if there was a Traveller wedding while they were here...T would be dumbstruck at the frocks and the enormous cascades of flowers...but the weddings are held mostly in the summertime so I doubt we'll be lucky to see one...

And now I'd better think about supper which is a huge trial to me...trying to cook a non-dead animal something for me and something which doesn't involve pasta for Himself is a pain...what I'd do...given the choice...is to make a big pan full of veggies and beans...that would keep me going for the entire week with baked potatoes or pasta...easy and awfully cheap. And I've just solved my own problem...I'll have the pan of veggies and beans and then I'll only have to cook one supper for Himself...
