Now I'm hoping Jenny has read her e-mails before she reads this 'cos big excitement today...the postie brought her Gt Grandfathers birth cert. And I hoped it would make it easier to track down her Dad's side of the family until I saw that Gt Grandfathers Father....has exactly the same feckin' name! And his Mother was named Mary for heavens sakes...John and Mary...you couldn't make it up and they were born in Wales which has totally unpronouncable place names and hardly any vowels so you can't even hazard a guess...
So from ripping open the envelope with glee to seeing yet another of her people bearing the same name in a country stuffed to the hilt with that particular surname...I had to go and make myself a cup of coffee and sit quietly for a while...
But I'm making progress...it's awful slow but it's getting there.

We went grocery shopping today...the highlight of my week as you know...no weird people today though just a smartly dressed rep who must have bathed in cologne...it was a pleasant enough scent...just there was far too much of it around the' biscuits to have with cheese'...which he was trying to persuade one of the floor people to order I think...I crept past in case he pounced and offered me a free sample...

Jason called for the key this morning...he's still waiting on solictors to hand over his own proper key and the poor man is desperate to start laying carpets and putting in ovens and that sort of thing...Himself brought Jack and Neddy back home yesterday 'cos Jack would have simply walked into the cottage if Jason had left the doors open and where Jack goes Neddy follows, so he'd have had two donkeys in his kitchen...

The woman from Argos 'phoned to say my kitchen cabinet ought to be delivered by the end of next week...when it's installed and done I shan't know myself having a proper sort of a kitchen at long last...I might sleep in there...might not...I'm not so keen on cooking and domestic tasks after all...could get some new cake tins though 'cos mine are awful old and seriously battered round the edges from me banging them on hard surfaces to extract cakes and biscuits that've stuck...new baking tins would look very nice neatly stacked inside the new cupboard as well...

This afternoon was spent with the scalpel blade carefully scraping off bits of grouting from the bathroom tiles which had oozed over the edges about ten years ago...I've tried everything to get rid of it, then had a small brainwave and tried the blade and it's easy-peasy 'cept I had to sort of squat in the bath to do it...and it made my hand ache after a while, but a small sacrifice for having grout free tiles where grout ought not to have been in the first place.

I'm having a bit of a Domestic Goddess thing at present what with lining shelves and painting...painting properly as well, as in going over the missed bits rather than just thinking that'll do and thinking about new baking tins...and scraping excess grout off...bit worrying really.

There are a few ripe blackberries in the brambles in the old wall opposite our cottage...I love blackberries...adore the smell of them cooking. And they are so satisfiying to pick...you get loads for almost no effort so long as you don't get stung by wasps and pricked by brambles...and have you ever noticed how all the very best juicest berries are just out of reach, so you have to reach further than you ought and end up sitting in a ditch surrounded by nettles...or you've picked a lovely big basket full and then the dog wags its tail and knocks the entire caboodle over...

So, all in all...it's been a good day.
