Got into taking some shots in York Minster. Rather than trying to get a sense of the architecture and the amazing scale of the place, I decided to focus on details. Most can, therefore, be found in the album Dead. Snapping in there is quite hard, as the light is usually pretty awful, but there’s some nice results up, and probably more to come.

Sat in KLIA, waiting for my flight to Delhi. Photographically, Malaysia has been fairly desultory — mainy because it has been so productive linguistically, and I haven’t had time. Last few days I was freer, but then it poured with rain instead.

Still, on to India, and apparently the Hyderabad University campus is full of wildlife, which should be nice. And then I have a day in Delhi at the end as well. So maybe some nice stuff to come from there.

When I first joined ipernity, I had the idea of taking a daily photo using the deliberately restricted means of the Mac’s built-in webcam to take a daily photo. Then I got my hands on a proper camera, and scrapped it.

But now, I’ve returned to the idea, mainly because I’ve been breaking up work with playing with the camera. So here it is:

Not much new from Malaysia yet as been busy. However, I’m stuck in Kota Kinabalu tonight and it’s raining and no-one I know is around, so I’m going through all my old photos finding ones I hadn’t posted before for some reason or another. So random uploads coming your way.

Tomorrow, I go up Mount Kinabalu to Kundesang and, should I have time, I should get some nice shots there.

No pics for so long, but I’m off to Malaysia shortly (sat in Heathrow as I type). It’s for fieldwork, so I’ll be pretty tied up, but I hope to get some decent pics at least. Stopping in India on the way back, so maybe some from there as well.

Back living in York now, so watch out for lots of quaintsy buildings and odds-and-ends. Clifford’s Tower has been supplied for starters: it’s a generic shot, really, but it was a nice day and the perspective I quite liked.

Now I’m back in the UK and cities to boot, the lack of interesting wildlife has been compensated for my the magnificently loan-generous Kal and Agata putting a macro lens my way. Taken me a few days to get used to it, but some nice results starting. Close-up mania shortly coming your way.

That's almost it from Brazil. Regrettably, I'm now back in the UK. A few more pics (including, you'll be delighted to know, some egrets and urubus) to upload, but then that's it for Brazilian colours.

Spent the weekend at Picinguaba, and although I got some nice shots of beachwood and some bees, I missed two great shots: a water snake (big one, too), and a humming bird (which here goes by the rather evocative name of beija-flor “flower-kisser”). The humming-bird I did actually shoot, but because I’d rushed to get to him (they don’t hang around for long) and hadn’t checked the camera settings, and the sun was all in the wrong place, they didn’t come out at all well. If I can touch one of them up, I might post. Otherwise, I’m back in Picinguaba again next weekend, and might get them again if I’m lucky.

That’s it.  I promise, no more egrets.  Unless I get a really good one.  Or I just feel like it.

Actually, I think I’ve more-or-less exhausted the nature possibilities of Paraty, without going outside of the town, which is a bit tricky as I’m working as well, so I can hardly jump on the bike for a day.  So I’m going to try shifting to some more people shots: to you experienced photographers this might not seem a big deal but, as I found snapping the couple under the trees, it takes (me, at least) a bit of screwing up of courage and lowering of moral puritanism to take candid photos.  Still, gonna give it a try.

Suddenly, water is everywhere here.  It’s high tide season, and the town gets heavily flooded leading to nice reflection shots (and a very bad smell).  On the roads near the shore, the repeated tides lay down a fair amount of esturine mud, which becomes crab heaven, and I got a few nice photos of some fiddlers.  Finally, it rained for the first time since I got here (regrettably meaning that the day I caught the church at high enough tide to get the reflection, the sky was overcast), so I got a few nice raindrops-on-petals type photos (one uploaded, I’m still playing with the others).
