When serendipity smiles & you know you've taken a special image...

Thursday November 29, 2007 at 02:03PM

"Unexpected til we came & saw it
Unbelievable as soon as seen
Hit the mark despite not aiming for it
Is'nt that how things have always been?"

-Bertolt Brecht

It has literally happened to me just four times so far. Four moments where everything just came together - the lighting, the moment, the composition & the timing...usually by chance, & that quote by Brecht sums that feeling up perfectly for me. Just thought I'd share it here...

Another quote that I think of much more often when I'm trying to capture that special, remarkable, even perfect image with my camera is this one by my compatriot Sam Beckett...

"Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better."

And I belive he is so right, I learn more from the photos that don't work out, probably much more than I learn from the rare ones that leave me smugly satisfied or humbly gratified...

Feedback please!

:-)

i just know that my good shots are the accidental ones, the ones where i just shoot without too much thought behind it. and no matter how hard i try i can't create that same photo again :-) i actually rarely think much when i shoot photos, it's more a feeling than a conscious choice. sounds silly i'm sure :-)

I started to learn a lot from my mistakes and bad photos when I stop tossing them out and started looking at them so I could see what went wrong. You don't learn much from the good ones, because, in my opinion, it is often a matter of... well not necessarily luck, but a combination of things you don't have much control over, like just being in the right place at the right time.
