Its Been a Hell of a Long Time

Very definitely long time no anything on here. Pretty much havn't had time to keep up with anything other than myspace, POTN, flickr, DA and uni. Had a lot of messages to sort through, something around the 150 mark. Interesting to note how my page views has exploded since last time I logged in.

Oh and my flickr pro account expires in a little over a week too. Will probably pay dad to extend it with his credit card but you never know. Really wanted a zenfolio account but they don't take paypal so that one is out I think.

Slightly interesting to see that this place hasn't really changed all that much in 8 months or whenever my last upload was....

My Introduction To Ebay

A while back I set myslef up a paypal account pretty much only because I could. After that I set up an ebay account linked to said paypal account again, because I could.

Now, I have recently purchased my first items on there and payment seemed to go smoothly. The first thing I bought was a cheap nock off remote for my 20D because Im not going to fork out close to $100 for the real deal Canon one. I ordered that on the 6th of this month and payed for it. Its now the 24th and still no remote. I had heard stories from other people who had bought from the same Hong Kong ebay store that sometimes they had to wait 3-4 weeks for their item to arrive. Ok, so Im fine waiting.

The second thing I bought was a 7" Joy Division record for my girlfriend. This was coming from the states. Anyway, because it was in USD I had to wait for the bank to convert the currency over and then for the echeck to clear. I got notification of that last friday. The item arrived, to my surprise, this morning. It looks like the seller posted it on the day I paid for it (the 17th) without waiting for the echeck to clear. I was still pretty impressed with how fast USPS managed to get it to my door from overseas and with a weekend thrown in the middle. Why would anyone pay even more for UPS to ship it and take even longer?

Dont know why I waited so long to get into the whole ebay thing. Now, Im sure I had something around here that I wanted to sell...

New Glass On the Way

Yup, thats right. First blog post in a while and its about new glass

Im getting a sigma 12-24 from a friend on POTN. He bought it for his 5D as a toy lens for a dirt cheap price and im buying it off him for even less. I know that this lens has a few "issues" when compared to the 10-20, but for the price im paying i cant complain.

Might have to borrow my dads EOS 650 and run a couple of rolls through it with the 12-24 given its a full frame lens.

Notification of Shipping

Late last week I ordered a flash and stofen omni bounce from a local camera importer. Well, after waiting for 4 days to see if they did in fact get my money I finnally got an email from them informing me that my package was in transit.

I now have a tracking number that doesnt do much as well. Fingers crossed that it will arrive tomorrow some time

Was also just outbidded on a battery grip for my 20D, except the price that it is now is $30 more than I can get a brand new one for...

By the way, if you are looking for a catchy tune on this fine monday night look no further than here:

What's In Yonder Camera Bag

Well, everyone is doing it and seeing as i just remembered i have photos of most of my stuff on my flickr, i thought i would do the same. I'll start off with the camneras that I have photos of.

Yashica-Mat (aka. The $5 Yashica-Mat)

The $5 Yashica-Mat
The $5 Yashica-Mat
Besides my 20D, this thing is my pride and joy. I had wanted to get a TLR and get into medium format after seeing some of the results of a former regular on vwvortex.com

Not too long after he bought his and showed off some of the results, I really started getting into flickr and building my contact list. One of the people I soon met was Greg and I saw that he had a few TLR's as well (among a multitude of other film cameras). It wasnt until I saw him using his Rollei at a meet that I knew I would kill to get my hands on one.

The day after that meet there was a camera swapmeet thing on in town, so I convinced my dad to take me with the faint hope that there might be one there. Turns out there was, quite a few. I picked up this one for $5 (hence the nickname). It certainly looks beat up, but it still works as it should. And the looks I get from people in town when I'm out with it as well as the conversations that start because of it are a pretty cool bonus as well.

Yashica 44 (Baby Rolleiflex Clone)

The 44
The 44
I wasnt actually planning to get one of these. I just happened to have some spare cash at the camera thing I mentioned above so I splashed out and bought it. Still havn't put a roll of film through it yet. Should stop being lazy and put some money aside to import some.

Ricoh XR-P SLR + extras

My Ricoh and all his little friends
My Ricoh and all his little fr…
I scored this camera plus the 50mm and 17mm lenses off my uncle last year because he hadn't used them in about 10 years and he knew I was keen on photography.

The 35-70mm 75-300mm and the 2x tele-converter are ones that I got from my grandad. Again, he never used them (in fact, I think he lost the camera that he used them with) so I got them.

Now I have access to a film scanner, I'll have to start getting my negatives developed and scanned so you can all see them.

Thats it for now, I'll have to track down another digital camera so I can get some photos of my DSLR kit soon. So I will update this when I do.

Happy Friday Y'all

As the title says, happy friday everyone. Hope everyone got through the week OK.

What a week it has been. Trying out alternatives to flickr, hearing about nothing but James Packers wedding in France, freezing my buns off on the coldest June day that Brisbane has ever seen and still attempting to sort through photos from an outing nearly two weeks ago.

Plans for the weekend? Well, hopefully picking up a new lens tomorrow followed by work on Sunday (this money will be going towards yet another lens and a flash).

Got any plans for the weekend that you feel like sharing? Stick them in a comment.

Have a good weekend what ever you end up doing folks.

Timing is Everything

I just logged into flickr to check my stream anad noticed a little purple box at the top of the page. It turned out to be a request from Flickr (read: yahoo!) to fill out a survey on it.

Honestly, of all the times to ask their customers to perform a product satisfation survey. I honestly wouldnt be surprised if most of the people who fill it out check the severely dissapointed responses and that they wouldnt reccommend it to anyone.

Personally, I answered with exactly how I felt. That I wouldnt exactly reccommend it to friends or family and that in some areas, I was really dissapointed with the service.

Then they went on to ask questions about my prefered search engine. Of course I answered google for the first question and then that if I wasnt happy with that, that I wouldnt use yahoo!.

All I will say now is that I hope they are ready for a lot of negative responses on those surveys.

Geo Tagging = A walk in the park

One thing that I never bothered doing on Flickr was geo tagging. The interface was slow and the maps were never acurate.

I dont know why I decided to try it out on here, it may have been influenced from hearing that it uses google maps instead of yahoo maps. But know that I have geo tagged, I cant get enough of it. It was just so simple to use and having the satellite image overlay is even more helpful in placing an image in the exact spot that you took it.

Not too sure whether it is worth packing up right now and leaving flickr for this place but it wont hurt to keep this account in use as well. And who knows, when my pro account on flickr epires, I may just buy one here. At least ipernity takes paypal...
