[ES] Partido amistoso de baloncesto España - Argentina [EN] Friendly basketball match Spain - Argentina

[ES] Ayer a las 8 de la tarde en el Palacio de Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid se celebraba el partido amistoso de baloncesto entre las selecciones española y argentina.

Sorteando los obstáculos

Me presenté unos 15 minutos antes del partido para recoger la acreditación y el peto. La organización de la prensa corría a cargo de Darío del departamento de prensa de la Federación Española de Baloncesto. Cuando me puse el peto y la acreditación todo el espacio debajo de la canasta argentina estaba ocupado por otros fotógrafos entre los cuales algunos viejos amigos de AFP y EFE. Rendido a mi suerte me dirijo al otro lado de la cancha y me siento al lado de un fotógrafo de EFE que no conozco.

Empieza el partido, mucha acción, velocidad y poca luz. Ajusto mi 40D que no está diseñada para entornos tan rápidos a f/2.8 y entre 1/500-1/800 de segundo para congelar el movimiento a 1600 ISO mínimo.

Mi cámara es rápida pero no puede compararse con la agilidad de la 1D Mark III de Canon o la D3 de Nikon. Debo intentar usar el equipo al máximo de su capacidad y obtener resultados aceptables con los medios que tengo.

[EN] Yesterday at 8 PM at Madrid’s Sports Palace a friendly basketball match was held between Spanish and Argentinean national selections.

Lo conseguiré

After taking a long ride on a bus I hit the spot 15 minutes before the match began, right on time to pick up blue FEB bib and the accreditation. The event’s press relationships were managed by Darío from Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB). After putting on the bib and the badge and having descended to the playground I discovered that most of the space under the Argentinean backboard and the end-lines are already packed with some colleagues from other agencies: AFP, EFE, and others. Surrendering I retired to a remote Spanish end-line where I found a sweet spot next to EFE photographer I’ve never seen before.

The game is on! Fast moving action, not enough light! I adjust my 40D to see what I can get to f/2.8 aperture and shoot between 1/500 and 1/800 of a second to freeze the action at 1600 ISO minimum.

My equipment is quite fast but not as fast in acquiring sharp focus, compared to Canon’s 1D Mark III or Nikon’s D3 beast. I must use my equipment at 100 percent of its capacity and wring out of it the best results I can on a budget.
