I have been thinking about this for a while now and I have come up with the conclusion that I am turning off the possibility to enter comments to my pics. Though I love to read them and I appreciate all the wonderful words you write, I think this is what works best for me now. I often don't have time to write comments myself. School and taking pictures is eating away my time. I too often feel I have neglected many of my contacts and also while gaining more creative minds to my list. I will still comment on your pictures, but not as much as before. There are so many creative and brilliant people here that I learn so much from. You are a huge inspiration and I will continue to follow what you come up with in the future. I don't want anyone to spend time giving comments to me if I don't have time to repay the favor.

I am a member of a photo-gallery without the possibility to give or get comments...
and it is very, very boring...
it is like if you make an exhibition in a gallery room,
many people come and go,
and nobody speaks a word...
just silence...
you will loose all your joy in photography...
art is and should be a dialogue :)

But this is now. I might open for comments later on when things change, but for now I think it is best. If I didn't do this it would mean that I spend more time in here, answering comments and giving them, when I should focus on what is my everyday life...my schoolwork.
And your comments are going to be missed! They are either very insightful or they make me smile....doesn't matter what mood I am in.

do you know... well giving comments is making me feel good as well. i (in my case) do not wait unconditionally for an answer, i think knowing you dont have time is enough.
i suggest you leave the feature open for us, so we can communicate and share our feelings when watching your pictures. dont you think that it adds to the pictures to have our thoughts and comments with them? i mean, they make the whole picture. this is what sites like these are about. giving, taking, sharing... socially. even though no one should take anything or anyone for granted (including the response of the photographer itself).
not sure if you understand what i am trying to say. :) but i will miss giving you my thoughts on your brilliant work.
Silje replies:
I do understand you, and I think it's the balance between all of this I find difficult. I could honor people with fast easy comments in return, but I can't. Sometimes I have spent 30min on one picture because I had trouble explaining my thoughts. And it is what you say..giving,taking,sharing...
But for now I can be the one you can visit...see my new uploads and if there is something that really hits home then I have my guest list open or a post, for the special and rare moments. This is confusing and I don't know if it is temporary or if I will keep it like this....

Yes I also have the same feeling of sometimes not visiting a page, because I am not in the mood for leaving comments or I don't have time. I don't like leaving my traces behind on a picture I find beautiful and not comment it. But it is what I am going to do now as long as my page is closed for comments. I don't think I am showing any courage....it's probably more egotistical, unfortunatly. But sometimes that is a need.

I think everybody needs more time every now and then (I think you have noticed I have taken mine recently). But times do change. One day you are back and communicate again. We must be all addicts more or less... And that'll drag us back here :)

But never feel guilty for not having time to respond, I think we all can relate to that so its not a problem.

Silje, you should of course do what you feel is right and the best for you at any given moment, i respect that :-) yet if turning off the comment feature stems from you feeling guilty that you do not have the time to comment on other people's work, then please reconsider. you have no reason to feel guilty whatsoever, you are never obligated to comment on someone else's work just because they comment on yours, never! however if you are more comfortable with having disabled the commenting, then i will just enjoy your beautiful work in silence until you give me the option to speak again, because i know you will :-) x
