JUST PURCHASED A NETBOOK....

Thursday July 2nd, 2009 at 09:42AM

....Over the weekend, i purchased an ACER NETBOOK....8.9 inches and white (sooo cute)....I paid only $279 and it included a free upgrade to a 6-cell battery...BUT...when i inquired about the cost of a 1-year extended warranty, the salesguy told me that the cost would be $89....I IMMEDIATELY DECLINED....Would any "thinking" person spend $89 to protect an investment of only $279???

I spent $300 for my iPhone and spent 70 on an extended warranty.... Because I did the same thing with my Macbook and saved $600 when the hard drive fried....

$89 for one year? That would be worth it for 3 years, maybe even 2, but only if it were unconditional like say, you drop it in the bathtub, or just drop it. Electronics don't typically just break on their own from "normal" use or defective workmanship so warranties rarely pay off. You can be sure they make a lot more profit selling those warranties than they do selling the products.

Given that the valuable asset needing protection is your data.
Would the warranty pay for recovering that?
If yes, and your own insurance dosn,t already, then yes.

REPLY TO Slipery Mule....The warranty covers hardware only....the user has the responsibility of backing-up his files on CD, external hard drive, etc....
