Geotagging the object or the camera

Wednesday September 19, 2007 at 09:12PM

Usually the place where I am with my camera and the object are near, so there is no need to distinguish between both ponts for geotagging.

But lets say I'm on a hill at take a photo of a building. Should I tag my position or the one of the building?

And how should geotags be set for panorama shots?

What's your opinion?

I tend to say: "it depends" (good answer, isn't it? ;)

If the main topic is a well known place I would geotag the place no matter where I stood. For a 360° panorama I would choose the centre almost always, else the same as before...

Is geotagging precise enough to really make a difference? On a global map the two location will appear to be the same, correct?

I set the geotag to my position too. But before my trip to the dolomites I had a look at the area with google earth. And in the maps there were pictures of places e.g. mountains. And to find a picture of a mountain I would rather search where the mountain is and not for a place where a photographer could be to take a picture of that mountain.
But here at ipernity we're geotagging for photographers and not for sightseers :-)
