Vielleicht habe ich gerade einfach ein Brett vor dem Kopf. Oder kann man die Alben wirklich nicht umsortieren? Sie werden auf der Alben-Seite und auf der Homepage unter "Latest Albums" immer in der Reihenfolge dargestellt, in der sie angelegt wurden? Eigentlich schade, weil ich, außer bei den Reisefotos, selten alle Fotos für ein Album "am Stück" hochlade, sondern auch älteren Alben immer wieder Fotos hinzufüge - und diese dann ganz gerne weiter vorne sehen würde. Hm.

Schön finde ich, dass man auch Alben zu den Favoriten hinzufügen kann ... das werde ich wohl in Zukunft öfter nutzen.

OK, maybe I'm just being exceptionally dense - albums can't be rearranged, can they? They are always displayed in the order in which they were created? Except for my travel photos, I rarely upload all photos for one particular album in a row. I tend to add to older albums when I take new photos that suit the album's theme - and I would rather like to move albums that I'm currently adding to to the top of the list. Oh, well.

Yesterday I noticed that albums can be favorited ... nice feature, I can see myself using that quite a bit.

So, die älteren Reisefoto-Alben sind übernommen, die noch fehlenden folgen ... irgendwann. Jetzt gibt's erstmal neue (oder zumindest neuere) Fotos. Den Anfang macht der heutige (nicht besonders ergiebige) Besuch im Wuppertaler Zoo.

Well, I've transfered my older travel photo albums. I guess I'll transfer the rest ... some time. Right now I want to continue with some new(er) stuff ... beginning with today's (somewhat uninspired) visit to the Zoo Wuppertal.

Was ich denn in Solingen zu fotografieren fände, fragte letztens eine Kollegin, das sei doch wirklich keine besonders schöne Stadt? Felder, Wälder, Wiesen, Blumen. Und Fachwerkhäuser. Und in der Stadt selbst? Naja, eher weniger. Aber das kann man ja ändern. Zum Beispiel mit einem Spaziergang in die Stadt. Und der beginnt in einer in den 1920er Jahren erbauten Siedlung einer Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft im Süden der Stadt.

A while ago, I was asked by a colleague what kind of photos I take in Solingen - after all the town wasn't that beautiful. Well, fields, woods, meadows, flowers. And half-timbered houses. But in the town proper? No, I don't take too many there. Probably time to do something about that. Walking into town for example. Starting with a housing estate in the southern part of Solingen, built in the 1920s by a local building society / co-op.

Weiter geht's auf dem Weg in die Stadt ... vorbei am alten Solinger Hauptbahnhof und den Fabriken, die sich in der Nähe angesiedelt hatten. Einige sind noch in Betrieb, andere werden inzwischen anders genutzt - wie das "Gründerzentrum" links im Bild. Der ehemalige Hauptbahnhof wurde im letzten Jahr stillgelegt und durch zwei Haltepunkte ersetzt - die alten Bahnhofsgebäude beherbergen heute u.a. ein Designmuseum und Ateliers.

Next on the way into town are the former railway station and the nearby factories - some of which are still active others have been converted into office space. The old railway station was finally closed last year and two open-air stops were built instead. The listed 1950s building as well as the former goods depot have been refurbished and converted into a design museums and artists studios.

So, nachdem die erste Solinger Innenstadt-Besichtigung beendet ist, habe ich mich mal wieder einem meiner Lieblingsthemen gewidmet, der Landschaft um Solingen herum: diesmal Fotos von einer Wanderung um Leichlingen im letzten Monat - langsam arbeite ich meine fotografischen Rückstände auf.

Außerdem gibt's noch ein paar alte Schätzchen - "the diary of a time-traveller" - die ich für XenonB's Idee "Let's illustrate a book" (www.ipernity.com/blog/xenonb/15359) aus der Versenkung geholt habe - bei dem Buch handelt es sich übrigens um Douglas Adams' "Das Leben, das Universum und der ganze Rest" ...

After having taken a tour of "downtown" Solingen, I've returned to my usual haunts - the surrounding landscape. This time photos from a hike round the neighbouring town of Leichlingen last month ... seems I'm finally catching up on my backlog of photos.

Sie heißt Tika, wurde am 13.07.07 um 2:40 Uhr geboren, ist 82 cm groß und 75 kg schwer ... und der jüngste Sproß der afrikanischen Elefantenherde im Wuppertaler Zoo. Heute morgen wurde sie Presse und Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt - und ich habe selten so viele Erwachsene mit Kamera und ohne Kinder im Zoo gesehen :-).

Her name is Tika, she was born on 13 July 2007 at 2:40 am, and she's the youngest of the herd of African Elephants at the Zoo Wuppertal. This morning she was introduced to the press and public - and I haven't often seen so many adults with cameras and without children at the zoo :-)
