Jede Menge guter Wuensche ...
Gute, schnelle Besserung, mein Freund!

Please send your good vibes to Jim and his Linda, so he will soon be able to enjoy life again, and brighten his friend's days with his unsurpassed, kind humor. If there is one person I miss over here, it's Jim.

I just returned from visiting Jim. He was awake and aware and trying to speak (difficult with a tube down your throat). I passed on your prayers and best wishes.
His nurse told me that the lung is "good", his heart rythm has returned to normal but his heart has weakened and his blood pressure is still quite low. He is greatly improved since yesterday. His room looks like the bridge of the Star Ship Enterprise with all the equipment that he's hooked up to. I'm going back to see him on Friday - I will print these pages to leave with him.
Keep praying!

Hi Everyone,
As you all know Jim had his lung transplant last Friday morning. They began at 8:00 and were finished by 11:00. The first couple of days were a little rough to say the least but he is on the road to recovery. Each day he is doing a little bit better.
Thank you all for your good wishes. Jim is looking forward to being able to get in touch with all of you himself.
Thanks again,
Linda

Hi Everyone,
Jim is doing very well! It is hard to believe how far he has come in a week. He is out of intensive care and in a regular ward as of Friday. Jim is eating, drinking water and the only tube he has is a light flow of oxygen. Even that will hopefully be gone soon.
Thank you so much for all of your kindness and wonderful wishes.

Here's a nice update - Jim just phoned me! He's now in a regular room and has a tv and a phone. He sounds Great!!! His voice has more power in it than before. He says he's feeling really glad! And he had me laughing with his usual jokes every second sentence! And he said that the food is surprisingly good and that he's gained about 10 lbs.! He said he'll be moving into the suite in that guest house on W.13th about a block from the hospital in a week or 2, and that Linda's already there. I drove by it a couple of days ago, and it's a beautiful old heritage type house. I'll try and get a picture of it and post it, maybe tomorrow. He isn't using the laptop yet as the hospital says they can't guarantee its safety when he's out of the room for ultrasound or whatever. So it'll no doubt be a week or 2 for that.
Thanks so much for phoning, Jim, and thanks for doing so well!!! We're all rooting for you, and will be so glad when you return to Flickr!

Jim called himself and spoke with our friend Barb on Quadra this evening . She reports he sounds good, very " up" about being able to walk short distances now, and tolerating it well He is happy to be upright. . Linda reports she can see improvements from day to day.
Jim has no computer access yet where he is in hospital - but hopes to be able to "talk" to everyone once he is set up and connected.
He and Linda send their thanks and regards to all for your prayers and thoughts

UPDATE : March 10, 2008 @ 8:00 pm PST
Hi everyone, from Jim....
(he has asked me to bring you up to date until he is able to access his computer)
the medical facts are: Jim is still in the hospital and is likely to be there for about ten more days....the recovery process is moving along more slowly than he would like, but it is going well and as expected...
the happy news is: he is in good spirits....even though he's been slowed down a bit ( first by the surgery and now by all the medications) i can assure you he's still the same old Jim - the same quick wit and the same sagacious mind which never stops thinking of another way to get more fun out of life....
he is looking forward to being released from the hospital so he and Linda can settle into their little place to start living some semblance of a normal life and catching up with all the things which have been going on.....the laptop will not be fired up until he is out of the hospital, so he has asked me to thank you in the interim for all your well wishes, as well as the cards and notes which have been sent to the guest suite.....they both sincerely appreciate all your support...
and, finally, he and i had devised this great plan where i would sneak into his photostream and post a new pic just to surprise everyone (he's convinced you must all be getting tired of looking at that same pic of him for so long)....well, you know the old saw - "the best laid plans etc"....turns out, there's some kind of a glitch stopping access to his account, so we decided that i should just post a pic and an update here....
this is "Handsome"....he is an injured, captive eagle and he is the mascot for the Campbell River Eaglefest - one of Jim's favorite events....i took this pic at this year's eaglefest... i wanted to post it for Jim, to help him feel better about missing the eaglefest, and for all of you, to help you remember how much Jim loves his eagles - wild or not...
and then there is a beautiful eagle picture

I spoke with Jim on the phone this afternoon, and he's feeling good, and he sounded great! His voice sounds so much stronger than it has for the past couple of years! He had been hoping to get out of the hospital today, but needs to stay for another week for them to monitor some inevitable minor things, which is of course frustrating for him, but as he says, the hospital is the best place to be for seeing to those things. He said that his car (his office) is being brought over to Vancouver, but they won't let him drive it for awhile, so I'm going to be the designated driver to drive them to Iona (a nature preserve area near the Vancouver airport) as soon as he gets out. He's looking forward to that of course, as am I. I said that it would be a nice change of scenery from the hospital, and he said that's for sure!!

Linda has a friend from home visiting with her and, when they are not hanging out with Jim, they are out and about visiting all kinds of fun places in vancouver....having someone else there with her has made everything so much easier for her....
he enjoys hearing about the comments and anecdotes you have all left on his site (and in the groups) and he is looking forward to being able to get back on his computer and interacting with you....

I just had another wonderful phone call from Jim. His voice sounds so strong. He said he went for a pretty good walk today, but had to quit because his LEGS gave out!! He is really looking forward to his release from the hospital... (maybe as soon as Friday... day after tomorrow!) and some good home cooking from Linda. He says he feels stronger every day!
Greg visited him today., and told him that I made the 1000th comment.. Jim said that was why he was phoning, to tell me I won the prize.. he's going to pay for my Fish and Chips when they get out here to White Rock! I told him I cheated, but he said no, I won it fair and square. Who am I to argue with our beloved Jim!
Did he know that he had so many friends all over the world? He said he never really thought about it before. Linda is doing well, having a visit from a friend, so they go to see Jim, then off for some shopping fun...then back to see Jim!
I feel so blessed receiving phone calls from him.I'm sending more prayers and healing thoughts to you, Jim, and to Linda. Keep up the steady improvement! Love, Norma.

And that's a great idea to post pics of Jim's favourite spots Gordon! This one's a beauty!!
And those cookies sure look delicious Tina!! Yum!
I feel so lucky tonight! I visited with Jim this afternoon in his hospital room! He's looking really good and is in really good spirits!! He's sure looking better - healthier - stronger - than I've seen him in the past year or so! His great spirit and character were shining through, and it was great to see him looking so charged with positive energy!
It was obvious too though that his body has been through a major war, and it will certainly take some time for it to recover. But he's definitely on the way! So much so that he might be released from the hospital on Sunday! That's great of course, but he thought that today would have been even better. But that's a good indication of how good he's feeling!
It's too bad I didn't have a camera with me, but I might get lucky soon and get a photo of them on the veranda of the guest house!
So Great to see you today Jim and Linda (and Barbara, Linda's visiting friend)!!!!!
Oh, I just saw your post Norma - that's great that he phoned you! Apparently after he gets out, it'll be awhile before they give him permission to go roaming about, but I'm sure as soon as they do, we'll be out your way first thing!!! About his good walk today - he said that he went for a good walk around the perimeter of the ward, and that his oxygen never went below 95% ! Yay!!!

am out of the hospital today, 28 days after the operation and in some ways a million years in experience. I am breathing on my own, and although I am as weak as water, I am fine. The new lung is working wonderfully. Linda and I are established in a one-bedroom suite in a converted heritage house a block from the hospital, and are warm and comfortable. I have between 2 and 4 months of bi-weekly therapy at the hospital before I am allowed to return home, but I am highly motivated and am hoping to be closer to two months.
On another note, I cannot thank everyone enough for your support and good wishes. Your cards and the comments, the knowledge that I had your support, helped more than you can ever imagine. Linda and I both thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and wish you all health and every happiness, you all deserve it. I'll never get caught up with everyone, but please know how very much it's meant.
This seems a fitting first post, a double rainbow that Linda shot from the ICU unit a week after the operation, It seems fitting, my old life fading into the background and my new one getting brighter. Thank you all. Be well.
