Is it developing problem or a film problem?

Tuesday August 21, 2007 at 12:31PM

I send a color film to developing on a studio, but when I saw the results I found that it so ugly, the black is not good at all, and I had light distribution problem

see this example:

look at the black in this border

I used Leica M6 + Summicron 35mm + Kodak COLOR plus 200 ISO, I don't have any information about the developing

I am not expert at all in photography, so I really appreciate any help

just for better understanding: was the space between the windows supposed to be black?

how did you digitalize the picture?

no it is no so black, but it was so dark wall,
the room was so dark too, and the problem presents in other shots. I will post the some soon.

the scan was done by the studio. it was a Kodak scanner, which they use for all of there works. it is connected with the developing-printing machine.

do u think that the scanner may be a problem ?

hmmm, i think it can be a developing problem. i had similar effects on b&w films when i developed them myself. might be caused by too much/fast movement or worn out developer.

just a thought, i could be wrong...

I've noticed that the problem presents on the border between light and dark !!
and most of pictures have too much red !!!
because of that I thought that it is developing problem !

how old was the film?

I didn't look at the expiration date !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

bunthundpro says:
that might be a cause, at least for the *too much red", as some parts of the emulsion start to disintegrate earlier than others. but normally this shouldn't happen if a film is only a few months or even a year over thee expiration date. exposing undeveloped film to heat can also be a problem.

but as most of your problems appear in the darker parts of the picture i still think it's a developing problem.

it could be the age of the film but some labs adjust colors no matter what and they don't come out right. i've had problems with the printing of my digitals... i KNOW what they are supposed to look like and i get them and the color is all off. some labs are better than others. the only way to really know is to try out a couple different labs.

i kind of think it's the film though.
