For a few days I've been busy in real life ... you know vacation started and all the small projects at home has to be fixed. And tomorrow it's time for a trip ...
Well, here is how popular I became today when I came too close to a nest

Here are two pictures I posted to my blog. It's almost exactly 6 months between these photos. The first one is taken January 1st, 2008 around 00:27, the second is the same scene but taken July 1st, 2008 around 00:07 (I was to tired to wait another 20 minutes)

There is a difference in lighing conditions between summer and winter
It's time for another trip, once again to the Uppsala area - it's kind of funny it took a fairly long time before I visited Uppsala the first time but now I seem to visit the area 2-4 times a year.
I dropped my camera last week, a quick check showed that there was something wrong with the lens... I checked with my camera shop (a good shop with people who knows what they are talking about) and they declared the lens dead - "no use repairing it" - deeep sigh, it was my main lens
So I had to figure out what to do .... replace it (18-135mm), buy 16-85 VR (with the goal of buying a 70-300mm later) or buy a 18-200 VR. All the alternatives are fairly expensive. I talked to my insurance company and they said "Sure, you have to pay a part of it but we will replace it" !!! I really like this company, no discussions, no problem ... if you live in Sweden I can highly recommend Länsförsäkringar.
Anyway, it's now 1.5 week later and everything seem have a very happy ending, it will cost me some money (money that I don't really want to spend on my camera) but I'll end up with a better "setup" than before the accident.
If you're interested in birds I recommend that you take a look at Alan Norsworthy photos, he has just posted three very nice "portraits"
Didn't get as many chances to use my camera as I had hoped for ... and when I did get the chance I didn't manage to get that many pictures that were OK
I've spent quite some time trying to translate ipernity into Swedish and it's an interesting experience. I've translated stuff from English to Swedish and vice versa, I'm not in any way trying to say that I'm a real translator but I've translated interviews, papers etc.
However, translating something like ipernity is different. When I translate a paper I can put the text I'm translating into context, I can see what is written both before and after the actual text I'm translating. This makes it possible to "re-word" the text so it looks OK in the other language. In other words I'm not doing a "word-for-word" translation. But when I translate ipernity I only see snippets of text without context which makes it fairly difficult to find the correct "tone" and choice of words + I need to make sure that the text doesn't look too "nerdy" but it can't be too "non-geeky" either.
It's going to be interesting to see the result, I suspect that I need to take a second pass over the pages and make sure things doesn't look too strange.
My laptop battery is now able to keep my laptop running for about 10-20 minutes and then it just shut down my laptop without any warning ... not fun. Fortunately a new battery is on it's way.
There is one huge advantage of trying to translate ipernity ... I get to translate strings for stuff I've never tried before or even knew they existed. After translating I know that they exist and can actually use them
I've spent a couple of hours tonight trying to translate parts of ipernity into Swedish ... so I've spend some time thinking about what I miss about ipernity and the thing that comes on the top of my list is the ability to hand out what Flickr call guest passes (picasa has the same funtionality).
I would really like to be able to hide albums/documents from the general public but at the same time be able to send people an URL so they can view an album. I just checked my Flickr account and I've got 640 pictures there but if I check without being logged in I've got 240 pictures ... those 400 pictures, 2/3 of the total number, are pictures that I hand out guest passes to. So this is something I really miss.
Why guest passes? Well, I can't expect that all the people I know would register at ipernity to see pictures from a meeting etc, however they will follow a URL.
So I hope that ipernity will get guest passes soon.
Spring has arrived, well it arrived a week or two ago so I suppose it's summer now. The flowers has started to pop up (yes, there is snow left at some places) and today it was about 20° outside. Personally I spent most of my day inside ... working out ... and right now I'm trying to get the "courage" to get up from this chair (my back is going to hurt when I do that). Well, I better click that button and try ...

Anyway, it seem that I need to use Firefox for this editor to work correctly ... I wonder how the different APIs work, I must check to see if anything fun can be done with it.
I haven't had much time to write stuff here, mostly because of work ... haven't had much time to use my camera at all the last weeks. And even my private project of trying to post one picture/day for a year on my private site had proven to be a challenge. It does take some time ...
But I do recommend trying to post one picture/day for a year. It has forced my to both go out and take pictures, and re-evaluate older pictures. So even if you just do it locally on your own machine where no one else can view them it's a wonderful exercise.
