Life on Mars - Aliens

It's great to see, that the Life on Mars-group here on Ipernity develops well, giving us many insights, how various life is on other planets. Thanks to everyone who posted.

Today I would like to focus on the best pictures of aliens:

Aliens are very different, but most of them are friendly:

... some are a little bit crazy:

... some look just a little bit strange:

... and some (not many) of them are a little bit scary:

... but in the end, they are all great photo models ;-)

Exhibition

I am really proud to have been invited to Manuel's contrasted gallery. I will have sort of an exhibition there for this week. So, if you are interested, here is the slideshow I created for this purpose and this is where the discussion takes place.

See you there, if you like and thanks to Manuel for organising this and for inviting me :-)

My favorites - Oktoberfest

Last time I presented Munich in my blog. This time I would like to focus on a very specific Munich topic: Oktoberfest.

If you have never been there, you should go there at least once in a lifetime. If you are specially attracted to it, you are among one of two groups of people: Either you like drinking beer or you are just fascinated by the crowd, the many lights, the different smells,... You can see all kinds of people coming and going, you can see friendships coming an going, you can see the beginning of new relationships (how long will they last?) and you see them end.

After all it's life in a condensed form, fast and intensive (making you sometimes dizzy)

Here are my favorite Oktoberfest pictures:

First, there is a hughe construction site (from mangobird):

... when the rollercoaster is finished, it looks like that (diskostu):

There are a lot of lights whirling around (from mfr-photodesign):

from tschnitzlein:

another one from tschnitzlein:

... while Bavaria is watching the szene (mfr-photodesign):

Of course, Oktoberfest, that's beer (Lars Trebing):

But among all this, there are also quiet szenes (from Fuad):

... but not for long (from herbstkind):

Yes, and there are these special encounters (tschnitzlein):

That's, what Timo wrote about this picture:

"There was loud Boogie-Woogie music playing, and many people were dancing. This couple had been dancing particularly elegantly. When the man realized I had photographed him and his partner, he came to me and and thanked me for taking pictures in broad Bavarian. He proudly told me he had recently won the Boogie-Woogie dancing world championship."

A spectator (from herbstkind):

Today, Oktoberfest is over for this year.

My favorites - Munich

For 14 years now, Munich is my home. I did not like it so much in the beginning and I still don't like everything but on the other hand side I discovered so many beautiful sides of this town.

Well, Munich is different. I would like to demonstrate you, why:

I would like to start with a nice summer picture from Lichtbold:

In "5 Höfe", a highend shopping line, there is a huge metal ball. This is one of the unusual sights on it from Malona:

The Highlight Towers are one of the architectural highlights in my opinion, but there are many people with a different opinion. Judge it yourself (Heinz Besen):

The Olympic Parc is another example. A great picture from Discostu:

Sorry, the next thing is in german.

Robbb hat eine wundervolle Geschichte über eine Begegnung geschrieben, wie sie sehr typisch für München ist. Ausgesprochen lesenswert: www.ipernity.com/blog/robbb/21186

Another highlight in Munich are the subway stations. Here is Marienplatz (from Malona):

Next station: Candidplatz. An unusual view on it by Herbstkind:

A funny sculpture in front of an office building from Timo Schnitzlein:

Of course, Munich, that's "beergardening" (from Renovatio06):

Here is a picture taken by Herbstkind in the modern art museum (Pinakothek der Moderne):

I would like to close with a nice evening scene at the heart of Munich (from Fuad):

Yes, I like this town... ;-)

My favorites - glass

Glass is a fantastic material. It can be completely transparent, it can be reflective, it can be distorting. Glass is nearly free formable but it takes an experienced hand. When it's hard it is extremely brittle.

I would like to present you my favorite pictures of glass objects.

First, geor.g invites us for a glas of coke

Finished? OK, so here is one from Ojisanjake:

Doomshammer is breaking the lines:

Some Flamingos from Helmut:

No idea, what this is, but it looks quite interesting (from azephalia):

Michaela is having another drink:

The next one is called "Bottleparade" from Photomotion:

Oh, I see, Lichtbold is already drunk ;-)

A great composition made of lines and glass from deborahf.

Another crazy one (from malona):

Here are great colors from Marc:

The last one is another glass facade by Manuel:

My favorites - emotions

A picture says more than 1000 words. It's true, pictures can express emotions much better than words could ever do. Some photographers here have a fantastic ability to express strong feelings in their pictures. I would like to show you some of my favorites:

I would like to start with a picture from Graphistolage:

The next one is called "Ain't no sunshine when she's gone" from Lichtbold (You should read the caption too):

The next one is called "Red tears" from Dany:

Time for some positive feelings:

This one is called "shiny happy people" (from Largo). To me it looks a little bit like the Teletubby land ;-)

Here are "sweet expectations" from Fuad:

Scenes of a prayer from Timo Schnitzlein:

This one is called "Love is blind" by daPope:

I would like to close with another great picture from Lichtbold:

My favorite videos

A great feature here at Ipernity is the possibility to share videos. It is especially interesting, when photographers start shooting videos, which results in sort of moving pictures. I like it. Here are my favorites so far:

The first one is a camera ride from helimars:

The next one is called "soon you will stop laughing" from colmans:

Dir wird das Lachen gleich vergehen!

Michele is sometimes quite critical, and this is how it looks like:

The next one is a crazy fish bowl abstract by Manuel. Have fun!

... and the last movie is one of my own:

I hope, that there well be more and more videos in the future. Everybody should all try it, it's fun ;-)

My favorites - (ir-)regular pattern

I like patterns and repetitive structures. In some cases it is additionally interesting, when there are small deviations from the regular structure, others are striking, because they are perfectly regular. Here are my favorites:

The first picture is from Granddesign. Great shadowplay:

The next one is a great plant macro from Daniel Schwabe:

Another great one from Joe:

Bamboo from Aurelio Asiain:

The next one is from Ojisanjake. Nice effect, if you view it in big and scroll up and down ;-)

Great colors from Airpark...

... and from Natascha:

The last one is from Helmut:

My favorites - weird architecture

Hi everybody,

we all know this standard architecture shots and we all know standard architecture. But in a lucky moment, a creative photographer takes a picture of outstanding architecture. I would like to show you my favorites of these pictures:

I would like to start with Helmut (you may know him as NightPhotographer at the other site). This was taken at the underground station Marienplatz in munich. It's a sort of orange tunnel and a lot of greta photos were taken there. I think this one is the best:

The next one is from Airpark; sort of decaying architecture:

The next photo is of the Eiffel Tower. Have you ever seen it that way? From Heinz Besen:

Back to Munich: This is a shot from Malona of the Highlight towers. Eventhough this is a great picture, for me the original is still slightly more impressive. I like this building :-)

The next one is from Opus 104. If this one is not weird, I don't know what...

Let's go to Barcelona. This one is from Manuel Diumenjo:

I would like to close with another shot from Helmut:

Hi everybody,

There are so many great pictures here on Ipernity, which should be pointed out. That's why I would like to start to present you from time to time my personal favorite pictures, which fit one specific topic. Today I would like to start with my favorite industrial pictures (so far):

The first picture is quite well known here and from andrewlee. I love this very special atmosphere:

The next picture is from Joe, showing 3+1, so in total 7 chimneys ;-)

Here are Graphistolage's chimneys:

... and the ones from schuetzerp:

The last two are great b/w pictures from lichtundschatten...

... and from Heinz Besen:

Life on Mars (part 1)

Hi there,

back at my old Flickr-days, long ago, when I was young ;-) I administrated a group called {Life on Mars}. A great group, a lot of fun (as soon, as there is this group feature at ipernity, you know, what I will do..).

If you don't mind, I would like to present you my personal favorites (maybe a part two is soon to follow):

(Title: No, I don't want to work with this alien)

Flickr impressions

Maybe I should not do it but I can't help having one eye on the things happening at Flickr. There I stumbled agross the latest picture from Steward: flickr.com/photos/stewart/567229075/ A picture really can tell so much...

I didn't and I don't agree with the things happening over there but somehow I feel really sorry for the stuff as persons although I don't know them...

Is this stupid???
