study of unhappiness

they say it was pandora
bestowed unhappiness upon the people
releasing fear and greed and envy
only keeping hope inside her box

it was woman
leading him astray
he tried to follow the map
she had given him
though it was undecipherable
he kept dreaming of the days of happiness

until he woke one day
finding himself in the midst of an emotional jungle
and she had even taken the light

since that morning
he has been searching the box full of hope
asking the stars above
the people below
they spoke to him in tongues he could not grasp

it was woman
that darn woman
running away with hope

was there a nun in your family, she asked. it is me, i answered. i live up the creaky stairs, across the missing floorboards. i am a modern day nun, with my own values, morals you wouldn´t understand. i have a brother who comes to visit in the icy winter only and we open the windows wide until our noses are red and frost glistens in our hair like diamonds. he whispers stories into my ear behind sticky fingers and we giggle. a purity like this so fragile flown in on the wings of a painter.

kisses arrive with the melting snow.
