The same place, the same style, the same idea, but three colors and and three different formats:

...and we'll have groups on ipernity. At least it was announced some time ago by the ipernity staff that they will implement some preliminary group functionality tomorrow.

I think, nobody knows details how the groups will look, which features and functionality they will provide, but anyway, this site will not be the same afterwards. Groups will change the way of how to access pictures and the way of communication, which is so far mostly limited to the own network and works mostly as a kind of dialog in blog entries or below pictures. Groups will bring people with different network background together, will give you a better overview what's going on.

That's definitely positive. But bringing the user closer together can also lead to conflicts. The main source of conflict will be the way how different user want to use groups. And partly, without having any groups up to now, discussions about that are already rather emotionally.

But nevertheless I'm clearly pro groups and so I'm looking forward what will happen tomorrow :)

I'm very happy to see groups finally implemented, but it seems so, that as a non-pro I can only join 10 groups. While I'm already reached this limit, I have to decline all further invitations. Sorry, my friends :(

Nevertheless, I already founded two groups. One is for pictures from Bonn, the city I'm living in since one year, and the other one is for pictures from Japan, the wonderful country I had the pleasure to live in for two years.

Now we have groups, and like one could have expected we have again a boost on activity on ipernity like in the first few weeks. People are founding groups, joining them and posting pictures and even people I thought have left forever come back and show activity. That's great and I really hope that this time the activity will not die again as the last time.

The second noticeable thing is the generous behavior of ipernity staff. Thanks to Christophe, Christian and Lea for giving us non-pro members much, much more than 10 groups. That's great and I think many of us will pay it back to you by making this place more attractive for old and future members :)

But I have also two things I would like to have changed on the groups:

1. The most important: Please stop these 'xxx has joined your group ...' messages. It's awful, I already had deleted about hundred of them. Or am I just to stupid to see the button I have to press to stop it?
2. Please enable an editor like this for the blog entries to write the group descriptions . It would be really helpful to make nice looking descriptions :)

Beside this, groups look technically very good, especially for a beta version. Good job, ipernity staff!
