Nikon has "just" released new versions and ViewNX is free and will be shipped with all nikons digital products.
Why used Nikon Transfer, after all its just a copy/paste thingy .. right ? Yes and no
It has the possiblity to synchronize your camera's clock to that of your computer and since im using and <a href="en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_Time_Protocol">NTP</a> service, my clock is always correct.
Second it can backup your photos to a second device. I like that, it saves me time.
Why use ViewNX? ... I like the fact that it just file explore, no fancy stuff. You can still add labels, ratings, metadata and such stuff ... but you can't really search on it :( The rating and color labeling do work within a folder, but not across folders.
But for my workflow it works better than Adobe's Lightroom (and my trial is over) and maybe i can set up smart folders on my mac to do the grouping ... maybe, or write some perl scripts to do the searchs for me.
