Crane School

I was near Holbæk this weekend. With my sons school class. We go there every year. Its a nice chance to talk to some of the other parents in the class and just see how the kids play together. Sunday morning i went out early to do some photo shooting, but the sun hadn’t really begun to shine yet and the sky was very boring. So i walked around looking for something to point my Nikon D200 at. When I came across the nearby crane and truck school, then sun began to shine and it created a very beautiful landscape, but you can judge it for your self.

Painting With Light

Just used the Ipernity Greasemonkey script to import the photo below from flickr. It works really, really well.

Sony GPS And A MAC

Finally it was delivered Geo tagging here I come.

Sony GPS
Sony GPS

The idea is that you just carry this around and it will record your position each 15 second. Then when you come home, you use the timestamp on your photos to figure out aprox. where they where taken. It works. More or less. It will run for aprox. 10 hours on a single AA battery.

Sometimes the GPS does record a wrong position, like 10 meters wrong and if you move really quick (in a car) you can get some position errors, but other than that it works.

hmm.. Im on a mac and all the software with the sony gps is for windows. Read on.

Mac support for the Sony GPS

If you have an Intel Mac, then the 10.4.9 update will add GPS-CS1 support.

If you have a PPC Mac (G4, G5 etc) then it won't.

I have a PPC G5... So right now im forced to use my windows to import the log file from the gps and then i move it to my mac. Hope that apple will update the ppc version soon.

Convert the Sony NMEA format

To use the GPS data with any photo system (maybe except sony own) we need to convert it. I use GPSBabel+. Also Sony's own software will not update NEF files (Nikon raw files), so i couldn't use their software anyway. But GPSBabel+ is freeware and it works great. As input i choose "NMEA 0183 sentences" and as output "GPX XML". Operation mode: Tracks

Geotag your photos

I use GPSPhotoLinker. It works and its freeware, but please donate if you use it.

Service ....

My Nikon D200 is gone for fourteen days ... its being serviced. So im back on my film camera. Its a Nikon F80. Its nice. Had it for 10 years almost and never once has it needed any service

My D200 had been used every single day, yes every day, for 6 month and already it needs service. Im a bit disapointed. Its not a major thing, its only some plastic on the back that came off, but anyway.... not good!

To get some quick results im also shooting with a Sony DSC-V1. I mainly use it to record small video clips. Original i bought it because it has a manual mode, and not just a program mode. Below is a photo i shot this weekend with it. Its two photos and i stiched them together.

My "Equipment"

Since im a AFA (Anonymous Film Alcoholic) i try to stay away from buying any hardware that only works with digital cameras. My digital lens is given to me for 3 bottles for wine, so i couldn't say no. I love the sound of film. The way the shutter sounds. The way a film camera feels and the way that a film camera forces you to think. Its so different from digital.

Yes! Film is much more expensive than digital. Yes! With film you have to wait to see the result of your exposure, but sometimes its still worth it. I do shoot less film now, since i have entered the digital realm.

I like my D200 a lot. It has changed the way i see photography, but i love my F80! My F80 is always working and never once has it needed any service. The viewfinder as all kinds of dust in it, but the camera house is clean as hell (wondering who cleans hell....). My F80 has seen snow, rain, sand, caves and rivers and never once have i been nervous about what the environment could do to my camera.

My D200 is (when it back from service) going on its first vacation with me .... the F80 will tag along as backup.

The Holga 120N 120CFN is mostly for fun and for being creative - and for getting that "I have got to ge the best and sharpest photo" out of my system.

Holga is fun and i very good friend!

Police Or Parking?

Yet another on from my visit to Barcelona, Spain.

Im still wondering if ‘parking’ is more important than ‘police’ or maybe the blue ‘P’ sign means ‘Police’. If thats the case - i’m gonna be more careful when i park my car.

Back!

So im back from vacation. Just spent 5 days in Berlin. What a wonderful city, so many things to see. I have no idea how many kilometers if have walked, but i carried my Sony GPS all the time, so i can calculate it :)

I have done alot of experiment with HDR, especially handheld HDR. Also different kinds of shooting mode, letting the camera bracked by shutter time but also trying to let it bracket by changing the aperture... .. that  gave some interesting results.

Did a couple of stitching photo with my sons olympus fe-230 camera and he shot some too. Mostly cars :)

So you can expect a lot of photos being uploaded very soon.

My Friend - Mr. Spider

I’ve been following the life of this “little” spider. My friend. My son has named it: ole

Spider Macro
Spider Macro

Its seems like it really likes to hangout in my garden. Last time i saw it i got a couple of shots, but it was just sitting there doing nothing. This time while i was setting up, it caught a fly. At first the fly didn’t move, so the spider waited. Sitting and feeling its web. Then the fly move a bit - so did the spider, but still waiting. The fly began to move more and the spider quickly jumped it. Span its web around it and sunk its teeth’s into it. At this point i was done setting up and getting my macro lens focused. Everything was over. The spider took its pray to the middle of the web and started its own private party. Out of 29 shots, only one was worth keeping.

"Make like it dosn't matter", said Cheyenne

The above sentence is from the movie: "C'era una volta il West", but most of you will know it under the name "Once Upon a Time in the West". Its a classic! and its based on classic westerns.

If you havn't seen it, go out and get it right away - and watch it. Never mind the simpel story line, but watch each frame, each single picture. Sergio Leone was a true master with the camera. Try to pause the movie when you think there's not a great composition - and be amazed. Each single "photo" is a master piece.

Nikon Transfer and Nikon ViewNX

Nikon has "just" released new versions and ViewNX is free and will be shipped with all nikons digital products.

Why used Nikon Transfer, after all its just a copy/paste thingy .. right ? Yes and no

It has the possiblity to synchronize your camera's clock to that of your computer and since im using and <a href="en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_Time_Protocol">NTP</a> service, my clock is always correct.

Second it can backup your photos to a second device. I like that, it saves me time.

Why use ViewNX? ... I like the fact that it just file explore, no fancy stuff. You can still add labels, ratings, metadata and such stuff ... but you can't really search on it :( The rating and color labeling do work within a folder, but not across folders.

But for my workflow it works better than Adobe's Lightroom (and my trial is over) and maybe i can set up smart folders on my mac to do the grouping ... maybe, or write some perl scripts to do the searchs for me.

You saw this doc for the first time X ... ago

Have you noticed that when you visit a "doc" after the first time, it will display a line saying: "You saw this doc for the first time X ago"  ?

If ipernity begins to track this, maybe we can begin to have better stats and not just the visit count. Maybe if they also could track where a visitor came from, like a group, explorer or by tag...

Holga 120 CFN

So i broke my old Holga 120N a few months back. Its not the first time i broken it, but this time not even more tape would hold it together. I really been missing it.

So i decided to buy a new one. A Holga 120CFN. Found a starter kit with books and everything. The idea of a "Holga starter kit" was simply more than i could resist. I think its such a funny idea. I have only been reading on the box and it looks like one piece in the kit is .... TAPE

Can't open it until sunday .... it my very own first sunday in december gift

So if you wanna know whats it the box, you'll have to check back on sunday.

Check it out here My Third Holga

Here's a couple of shots taken with my old Holga

Also, i have updated My Equiment list
