and you know what i mean! i leave only fave sometimes, or sometimes it's only one word, or something even less complicated. i have nothing to say mostly, i'm not sophisticated artist (sofasticated housewife i am!) and i won't pretend that i am. i take photos that's all! but THIS IS PHOTO-SHARING SITE! if they got nothing to share, they should post on own websites not here...

I do understand your frustration, though I agree with Jonathan. Sometimes I leave comments, sometimes not. As long as the visitors identify themselves, that I can see who was there then I'm fine with it. The thing I dislike the most are the anonymous ones. Ipernity has the possibilities to do something about that. No profile, then no peeking!

tons of perfectly normal looking people haven't filled out their profiles. and anonymity is an option given by ipernity.

truthfully i think people's choices of groups tells me more about them than anything they're going to write about themselves. sheer panties , grandpas daddies and uncles group for example, tells me that's a person i don't need to know.

i look at pictures anonymously when i want to see one again and again. sometimes i am looking for reasons that are relevant only to me and don't want the person to think i am a psycho.

if anyone is going to steal your picture they can do it anonymously or not.

of course, anyone can steal picture, but what i meant was stealing ideas. if i see something similar to what i took i give credits to the person that posted first, if i use title (vide "in rust we trust" set) i give credits as well... it won't hurt, i'm not posig for an artist and i don't have to be the star with million hits! i want to share! you know, mad.melon, i'm agree with you but i'm agree with jonathan and erato too. happens to me to be not in mood to leave comments...i don't think that is so bad! about the steal ideas problem, well, you're right, that happens and it's a very unpleasant thing but....it's life!!!

Sometimes i don't feel like leaving comments and i comment on one with the note "i'll be back". I stopped commenting on every pic in mpph group, no use... but the group is open and has no rules so it's ok, i won't force anyone to be active. What makes me really sick is that there ARE people who NEVER LEFT ANY FAVE OR COMMENT, but they are still lurking. what for? I just don't get it.

problem is one: it's PHOTO-SHARING SITE!!! not museum. i don't give glittering awards, i'm not inviting to groups just because i don't have anything else to do, i invite people to SHARE their work: without glittering awards and without rules or invitations.
i interact with people that are interactive. and if someone doesn't like my pics what is the reason of lurking? there is no obligation to leave comments or faves but if someone is watching my photographs it IS polite to leave comment and/or fave. is it so complicated? i really don't like "artists" and i'm not here to get as much views as possible, but i don't like to be watched only... i SHARE, and i want others to SHARE too. i don't want comments from lurkers, i want lurkers NOT TO VISIT MY STREAM!!!! that's all...

there is not such possibility as making stream visible for CONTACTS ONLY... as for language: english is pretty universal, don't you think? i don't want people to communicate in polish... i have one constant lurker i know about and it's the only lurker i can accept, because it's my friend. he is not ipernity user. the rest is just feeding their curiosity giving nothing. they don't SHARE anything, they are just lurkers...

In internet people are born as lurkers, this is natural way. You are just at high level of net-evolution, but ... what is the difference? We lurkers just love you and your pictures so nothing is going to change I think :-). Sorry Winnetou :-)

And about my reasons... G-zas, I have not any general plan of my net-life. Sometimes I'm bored, sometimes tired, sometimes enchanted. Sometimes i write some.

i would say most people on here are anonymous, by virtue of being 106 years old, living in anytown and having cryptic usernames, regardless of whether that is revealed when they visit someone.

these are all our own choices, and i understand privacy is something to covet, but if people have things to say (unless living in a repressed state where it may be unwise to be so frank) they should be honest about how they are and stand up for their beliefs. this is not so much about ipernity, more about blogs, where people make comments behind their veils of anonymity that they would otherwise not do.

and that greed in the eyes: read the blog, read the blog but don't leave anything, just feed curiosity... błech, it makes me sick! and look, what happened when you're honest about what you like or not ;) disaster! :D lurkers are soooooo angry with me now :D:D:D and they leave comments hypocrites...

ah the quid pro quo arrangement where people fave or visit to entice people to fave their work. it is flattering when people fave your work, but a photo for me, is judged by myself. I like to share and see other photos for inspiration and enjoyment and to create a gallery i am proud of. I found on Zooomr, i site i liked and i am still on, people asking for their photo to be faved, to make it to say 10 faves. I found this behaviour a little strange. coveting virtual accolades is going to disappoint in the long run.

It has been interesting reading the different comments on this thread, and reveals a lot about our behaviour.

i'm not faving pics i don't like. for me photography is about what we see and how we see. i'm not an artist, i'm observer. i fave pics because they make me smile, laugh, melanchoilic or something, not only because they are "good" i've seen a lot of pics that technically are perfect but they don't move me in any way, for me fave is personal mark and watching my faves anyone can learn a lot about me ;))

Yes, sometimes, faves is understood that way, and I do'nt like it neither. But I can live with something I don't like. :)
Sometimes, people who makes really great pictures here are faving my own, wich are not, - I am not at all a photographer - and it seems they do so just to be polite, because I fave theirs. It shouldn't be. But politeness is not a fault.

For me, "fave" a pic, is just to say "I like that", when I have no more to say, or no times. Quite the same than saying "Nice pic" and no more.
And it is also for the facility to look back later.
But you're perfectly right: it has nothing to do with the value of the pic.

i don't have any need but one: i asked politely lurkers to go somewhere else. i dislike lurkers, that's all. i had a lot of visitors that always watched my stream but never left any comment of fave. i call those people lurkers. they only watch, they NEVER share. i hate them! and i don't understand such people. if i don't have time, i don't watch. it's not 3 seconds per pic for me. i want to enjoy what i see and when i'm enjoying i have time to think of what i feel watching this pic. and writing a comment is just final thing-to-do, if picture is really moving me in any way.

There are "lurkers", and I could understand you don't like them. But people who doesn't let comments are not necessarily lurkers:
- they do'nt know what to say: some people are not easily writing comment. We're on a site where there is more visual than verbal people
- They have to look first, to know if they like, and if they do'nt like, they do'nt want to say it, because they want to be polite or to not have conflict. Or, like me sometimes, because when you do'nt feel, you do'nt say.

I like your honesty, and Jonathan is right: the comments ont this thread are interesting. I do'nt think your opinion is horrible. Just sad. And not very open to other behaviours than yours.

i used to be open, thanks to lurkers i'm not open anymore. especially after posting my pics on other websites WITHOUT my permission, stealing ideas and other things. ah! and emails such as "please, add me to your contact list" (when person didn't even once commented or faved my work!) i hate lurkers! i'm honest and i won't change :) i can be really good companion but lurker needs no company, lurker needs to feed his/her curiosity only...

I won't change your mind and I don't intend to. It's not my place or anyone else's. But I will share a few thoughts in a friendly spirit.

Yes, it's a photo sharing site: I share my photos with this community, you share yours. We each expose a little bit of our soul doing that - another form of sharing. The point is, the sharing aspect does not all come from comments and faves.

When I see a photo that I really like, I do make an effort to verbalize my impressions, but even so, I am sometimes at a loss to say something about it. If I leave a "I like it" without explaining why, I feel like I am shortchanging the photo. If I left a comment about colour and DOF and tones and so on, I would be a fake and a poseur (there are others who can comment knowledgeably on these things). So when I do leave a comment I want it to be heartfelt, or I'd rather not speak. However I think I can honestly say that I view each photo with respect.

By definition, putting photos on an internet site, we all expose ourselves to not-so-nice people with various sorts of unkind behaviours. Personally I don't suffer from that too much because I don't think I have many photos worth stealing anyway (this isn't about my sense of self-worth, I got plenty of that thank you very much). Yet I can see how that could matter a lot more to some people.

it's sharing site, all right. but what lurkers share? nothing... it's all just about feeding curiosity, not about sharing. i don't want people to leave comments and faves all the time they visit my stream, but i can't stand typical lurkers. they ONLY watch. and they offer nothing. i don't want 300 hits per pic. i share my point of view and if i do see something i like - i leave my mark, to let people know that they are not only "viewed" but appreciated. i don't want lurkers. i want interaction :) that's the meaning of my polite request ;)) and see? it worked ;))
