Experiments with a Budget Point & Shoot Camera

Some days ago I bought a Panasonic DMC-LZ8, a budget P&S camera for just 100 €. It's features 8 MPix, a 5x zoom lens and image stabilizer. I was surprised by how many functions you get in such a cheap camera these days.

Coming from DSLRs operating this small camera was a bit cumbersome for me in the beginning. After some test shots I realized that this camera not only offers a lot of value for the money. You can also take some nice pictures on the way:

This camera has its limits and my DSLR produces far better pictures. But you can take along this little camera everywhere you go (well, almost everywhere).

Money Is Like A Hot Potato

Today I read an article in the newspaper about the economy in Iceland. They were doing so well in the recent years but for the past year the value of their currency against the Euro has been cut in half. Nobody wants to keep money these days. One Icelander described it this way: "Currently money in Iceland is like a hot potato". The article concludes with a press release of the Icelandic tourist board that promotes Iceland now as a great destination for family vacation and even for Christmas shopping.

Optimism is obviously an Icelandic virtue.

Let's support their optimism by sending them our best wishes!
