the only way for ipernity to compete with flickr are a few innovative features (missing from flickr), and the fact they they don't censor harmless nudity (which is censored by flickr with their filters etc).
but will that be enough for ipernity to attract masses?
ipernity is good, but honnestly, it is still very far from competing with flickr on the technical point of view (i.e. features, ease of use, powerful tools, external API and so many third-party tools etc).

Plus at the moment, th "feel" of this place is a lot like old skool flickr, which I really appreciate. :) Flickr tries to be "aw shucks" granola old hippie AND a slick corporate man at the same time... It just doesn't work :)
Anyway I'm digressing now. Nice to see you here. :)

However, if they keep pushing the translation efforts, they might be successful. For now, ipernity appeals to me for example because they are European-based and seem to try much (!) harder than flickr to understand how the people think like over here.
After all, they don't need to become as big as flickr to be able to pay their bills.

BTW what does the name "IPERNITY" stand for? i don't think it's a name too good, and not easy to remember.

It takes more then some translation to localise a site, and I think Flickr kinda missed the point on that ... (personaly, I prefer if Ipernity didn't go down that route, as I feel it did split up a larger comunity in smaller fractions, but that is just me :))
