Passport photos: 8bf filter IV

passport picture
passport picture
As a side-effect of last week's Pop-Art-filter, i decided to post a passport photo filter. How much do you pay for your passport phots? Prices range from 3 to 7€ !!! What does 1 print cost? About 0.10€, maybe 0.25€ if you take your memory-card or usb-stick to a printshop. Still 10 times cheaper! If you own your own photoprinter, it's even easier!

SO: make your own passport pictures!! Use a neutral background, apply the filter and have a photo developped. Especially for public transportation cards, membership cards, student cards, that's all you'll need.

For official business (passport, visa), the conditions are stricter, but usually they inform you what to pay attention to: head size, background color, .... This varies from country to country, e.g. American standards are different to Belgian. So make sure to develop the photo in the right size: 8x10 cm or 10x13 cm, ... Please mind: FIRST: I don't take any responsability for visa refusals or other problems!! (But anekdotes are always welcome!! :D ) SECOND: Don't try my Buddha sample in visa application, it won't work, i tell you! Officials aren't complete morons !!

Anyway, the filter adds a whiter border around the photo and a clipping line in the middle. It also draws the white border on top the photo, thus covering about 5% on each side of the photo.

Have fun!!

Finally, as usual: the filter is free to use for Ipernity-members for personal use, and i hope you like it. If you like it very much, you might want to send me a postcard. (Lode Van de Velde, Hof Van Tichelen 20/3, 2020 Antwerpen, Belgium). If you want to use it for professional purposes, please contact me!

You can download the filter here. I also started a group to collect all filters plus samples and tutorials: 8bf.

new creativity in Ipernity

VERSION FRANCAISE chez Dany!

.8Bf is the extension of the filters one can add to quite a lot of graphical software
(including video-manipulation software) (Photoshop, Corel etc..)

With Dany i created the group

8bf

It's goal is:

- to collect all the filters in one place
- to collect practical information on the filters
- to add new filters regularly (free for you to use)
- exchange creative ideas, advise, tips
- have fun (as usual)

Since the group theme is creativity for everybody, there will also be a series of screensavers. A collection on all kinds of photographical themes:

Under construction:

- RSS-feed, radio, music, video and clips
- including Ipernity member photos (with autorisation, of course)

And who knows what other goodies will come up along the way?

Mirror Mirror: 8bf filter V

The next filter has several possibilities:

  1. Mirror one half over the other half, where you choose the reference part to be mirrored (left, right, top or bottom);
  2. Switch left <-> right side, or top <-> bottom;
(useful after the pop-art filter, to move the differently coloured parts)
  3. Lodchjo's 2x2 makes a quadruple image, whose parts are all mirrored.

Here are 2 examples of the latter and an older mirror-shot:

Old Media: 8bf filter VI

Since i got a postcard, i'll continue uploading filters :D

For those who don't have Photoshop or similar software, Irfanview is free and supports 8bf filters!

Now, with the next goodie you can imitate images on old tv-screens or newspaper photo quality by adding noise, rasters and lines (both horizontal and vertical). A monochrome conversion for b&w, blue and green are also included.

Some explanation on the values:

  1. Static: value 0 means "noise turned off", 1 is a lot of noise, 2 is less noise and so on.
  2. V-Hold and H-Hold draw lines. Value 1 = no line, 2 = a line every 2nd pixel and so on.
  3. Selector allows for monochrome conversion (colours = no conversion).

Attention:

  1. Sometimes the preview pane turns blank, this is due to the way the image is reduced (by eliminating lines). Solution: press "+" or "-" to enlarge or reduce the preview.
  2. The same happens to the resulting image. I promise you the image is good, but enlarging or reducing the preview causes similar 'accidents'.
  3. You can resize the image after filtering, but this might affect quality. So: resize first, play later!

Have fun! You can download the filter here or visit the 8bf-group.

Finally, as usual: the filter is free to use for Ipernity-members for personal use, and i hope you like it. If you like it very much, you might want to send me a postcard. Stained Glass: 8bf filter VII

To continue a good Friday's habit, here's another filter. It won't do miracles, but add a colourful border to your photo's, as if seen through a stained glass window.

As i'm slightly running out of ideas, therefore suggestions for further filters are welcome!
