Slinkachu - little people in the city

Slinkachu creates street art installation projects and combines it with photography. A must see! Check it out here: http://www.slinkachu.com

Quote from his website: The street-based side of my work plays with the notion of surprise and I aim to encourage city-dwellers to be more aware of their surroundings. The scenes I set up, more evident through the photography, and the titles I give these scenes aim to reflect the loneliness and melancholy of living in a big city, almost being lost and overwhelmed. But underneath this, there is always some humour. I want people to be able to empathise with the tiny people in my works.

The Hitchiker's Guide to Ipernity

... the answer to life, the ipernity and the rest...

- We're in here for the fun, so enjoy yourself and the contact with other members
(The vogons will destroy earth anyway, so why not have a good laugh first? )

- Before creating a group, check if it doesn't exist already!
(If it's too late, nevermind. Parallel galaxies may co-exist and they're Mostly Harmless. )

- I've seen the groups 1+ Faves, 3+ Faves, 5+, 7+ (all primes!), 10+, 25+, 35+, 50+, 100+, ...
(By the way, is there a group called 42+ faves??) Yes, of course!!!! And I didn't even start it!!

- However, please don't post 42 versions of the same pic.
(Unless you are a Vogon .)

- When you reply to a comment, click "Reply" first. Sounds logic, but apparently it isn't.
(I know this demands a lot of effort, so use your towel!! Carry it at all times!)

- You can't see all of your latest network uploads?
DON'T PANIC!! It might be fixed at the End of the Universe.

- Got a comment in a strange language?
Feed the Babel Fish underneath the comment... So long and thanx to the Mice!

- And Another Thing: have fun!
Whatever that is....

Marvin.

Styles and dandelions

tampopo
tampopo
It's interesting to compare pictures of the same object as seen by different photographers. Of course, defining the style by only one picture would be preposterous, but it's fun comparing anyway.

A picture by [op]drie reminded me of a dandelion shot i did myself; and since it's the season, several others crossed my irises lately.

So, here's a small selection of some recent dandelions from my network. Enjoy - in no particular order:

2 x 2 negative: 8bf filter XV

2 x 2
2 x 2
Just for fun: this filter makes a 2 x 2 version, with 2 negatives and 2 positives in opposite corners.

It works withg colour photo's too, but it's not very easy to get a well-balanced result.

Okay, i must admit i'm out of ideas... suggestions for more filters are welcome!!

Here's the filter!

Have a great weekend!!

Lode.

Dark Edges - 8bf-filter XIV

There were voices down the corridor...
There were voices down the cor…
Yet another filter i've used a lot myself already, because i wasn't happy with other filters that produce a vignetting effect, in other words: the dark edges around a photograph.

Tip: use it before contrast-enhancement and gamma-correction for a better effect.

Attention: if the original photo contains too much white/light parts near the edge, you might see circles appear - as in most similar filters - well then, refrain from using this filter on that particular photo; try one with less 'empty' parts.

You can download the filter here or in the 8bf-group.

PS: The filter is free to use for Ipernity-members for personal use, and i hope you like it. If you like it very much, you might want to send me a postcard. (Lode Van de Velde, Hof Van Tichelen 20/3, 2020 Antwerpen, Belgium). If you want to use it for professional purposes, please contact me!

Gradient B&W - 8bf-filter XIII

For those who like to play with filters, this is an idea i had when i saw one of Dany's photos. I thought a colourphoto of an old building (e.g.) might look good if the left part were in b&w and gradually gained it's colours, as if coming from the past into the present.

Hint: it helps to increase saturation before processing, to make it clearer. You might also apply the filter twice to get more difference between the b&w and the colour.

Gradient B&W
Gradient B&W

So here it is, or check Ipernity's playground: the 8bf-group.

I had to zip the filter once more, because ipernity wants to convert it to a dos executable, instead of keeping the original 8bf file-type.

Anyway, have fun!

Lode.

PS: Thanx for all (4!!) the postcards!!

Waves - 8bf filter XII

Very quickly before flying to the Czech Republic, here's a new filter, which makes waves into a photograph.

serial living (quake version)

For best results zoom into the preview to get a 1:1 preview.

To have waves running the other way, turn the image left or right first. Or: do both!! :D

You can download it here!

Have fun!!

Cartoon - 8bf Filter XI

Some Ipernitians have already noticed new filters arriving in my space. This time there's some filters to make a cartoon-version of a photo.

See example:

Cartoon version
Cartoon version

There's 3 filters: Cartoon, Silhouette and LostPixels.

Why 3 filters? Well, the trouble with photographs are the huge amount of details.

So, when you want to make a good classical cartoon/comics version, see to it that the subject is very loose from the background. And another thing is structures... a (basic) filter can't see what is structure and what are important outlines. To get rid of the cluttering, i made the LostPixel filter, but it only removes stand-alone pixels in b&w shots, and thus cannot take away all of the structure. (But structure is not necessarily bad, at least not in modern cartoons/comics.)

Another trick is: increase contrast and play with gamma-correction to get rid of unwanted details.

Well, have fun playing around if you have the time!!

You'll find the filters in my Ipernity space (not "photo's" but the "other"-section) and in the 8bf-group.

ColourEtch - Filter X

Friday is Filterday!!!

Selfie - ColourEtched
Selfie - ColourEtched

So here's the next one: it will produce an etch with coloured edges (in most software, the edges are white-only) on a black background; or its negative (negative coloured edges on a white background).

Watch out with images that contain a lot of structure, because it will contain a lot of edges, but why not give it a try?

Anyway, here's a sample on the right:

And here's the link to the filter! You can also always check the 8bf-group.

Fragmentation filter - second version (easier to handle)

Selfie with new filterie :D
Selfie with new filterie :D
Since the first fragmentation filter was maybe a bit too experimental, here's an easier one.

See sample:

You choose horizontal and/or vertical fragmentation and there's a fine-tuning slider to correct the edges.

Have fun!

Lode.

PS: i forgot: here's the link to the filter! You can also always check the 8bf-group.

MonoColour: 8bf filter VIII

This filter allows a wider range of monochromatic conversion of images. Beside black&white and sepia, few monochromatic conversions are made. With this filter, you can pick a colour from the entire hue range and also vary the saturation. This kind of conversion is of course built in Photoshop, but if you don't have it, this tool might be useful. Also when your software allows for a fixed sepia-conversion, this filter allows for finer adjustments.

See a screenshot of the filter:

On the left, you see 2 suggestions for standard monochrome conversions, with the approximate Hue and Saturation-settings, for Cool Blue and Sepia.

Here's the hue range on a scale from 0 to 1023 (Which is actually a linear representation of the color circle - see wikipedia. Hence the normal range should be in degrees, ranging from 0 through 360, but for computerprogramming, a scale of 0 through 1023 has been fixed, to facilitate binary representation.)

Stained Glass: 8bf filter VII

To continue a good Friday's habit, here's another filter. It won't do miracles, but add a colourful border to your photo's, as if seen through a stained glass window.

As i'm slightly running out of ideas, therefore suggestions for further filters are welcome!

Old Media: 8bf filter VI

Since i got a postcard, i'll continue uploading filters :D

For those who don't have Photoshop or similar software, Irfanview is free and supports 8bf filters!

Now, with the next goodie you can imitate images on old tv-screens or newspaper photo quality by adding noise, rasters and lines (both horizontal and vertical). A monochrome conversion for b&w, blue and green are also included.

Some explanation on the values:

  1. Static: value 0 means "noise turned off", 1 is a lot of noise, 2 is less noise and so on.
  2. V-Hold and H-Hold draw lines. Value 1 = no line, 2 = a line every 2nd pixel and so on.
  3. Selector allows for monochrome conversion (colours = no conversion).

Attention:

  1. Sometimes the preview pane turns blank, this is due to the way the image is reduced (by eliminating lines). Solution: press "+" or "-" to enlarge or reduce the preview.
  2. The same happens to the resulting image. I promise you the image is good, but enlarging or reducing the preview causes similar 'accidents'.
  3. You can resize the image after filtering, but this might affect quality. So: resize first, play later!

Have fun! You can download the filter here or visit the 8bf-group.

Finally, as usual: the filter is free to use for Ipernity-members for personal use, and i hope you like it. If you like it very much, you might want to send me a postcard. (Lode Van de Velde, Hof Van Tichelen 20/3, 2020 Antwerpen, Belgium). If you want to use it for professional purposes, please contact me!

Mirror Mirror: 8bf filter V

The next filter has several possibilities:

  1. Mirror one half over the other half, where you choose the reference part to be mirrored (left, right, top or bottom);
  2. Switch left <-> right side, or top <-> bottom;
(useful after the pop-art filter, to move the differently coloured parts)
  3. Lodchjo's 2x2 makes a quadruple image, whose parts are all mirrored.

Here are 2 examples of the latter and an older mirror-shot:
