A German Song, thank you Normann!

Saturday November 14, 2009 at 02:17PM

You enjoy wonderful pictures here in Ipernity, you learn different life all the world here, you meet interesting people and good friends here, and you learn beautiful song and music here:-))))

Many thanks Dear Normann, I like the song you introduced so much, and decided to attach here so that many of my friends could also enjoy. And, also million thanks to Weilin, for teaching me how to download such beautiful song and music into this post! Thanks all, enjoy wonderful Saturday night!!!

2. Und wieder blüht wie damals
Am Neckarstrand der Wein,
Die Jahre sind vergangen,
Und ich bin ganz allein.
Und fragt ihr den Gesellen,
Warum er keine nahm,
Dann sag ich euch, dann sag ich euch,
Ihr Freunde, wie es kam.
Ich hab' mein Herz . . . . .

3. Was ist aus dir geworden,
Seitdem ich dich verließ,
Alt-Heidelberg, du Feine,
Du deutsches Paradies?
Ich bin von dir gezogen,
Ließ Leichtsinn, Wein und Glück,
Und sehne mich, und sehne mich
Mein Leben lang zurück.
Ich hab' mein Herz . . . . . .

******

English translation:

Tr. Frank 2000

It was a summer evening,
Just twenty I had seen,
When I kissed ruby lips and
Hair of golden sheen.
The night was blue and blissful,
The Neckar flowed pristine,
It was then I knew, it was then I knew,
What all to me did mean..

I lost my heart in Heidelberg for all time,
On a balmy summer night.
In love head over heels, oh were she all mine,
And like a rose, her laughing mouth my light.
As by the gates she said: "Good-bye my lover,"
That last sweet kiss, it did confirm once more,
I'd lost my heart in Heidelberg forever.
My heart still beats on Neckar's shore.

And once again the vines bloom,
As then, on Neckar's shore,
The years have passed so slowly,
And I'm alone once more.
And if you ask this fellow,
Why he took none to wed,
Then I will tell, then I will tell,
My Friends, what to this led:
I lost my heart . . . .

Whatever happended to you,
Since you and I did part,
Oh Heidelberg of legend,
Oh city of my heart?
I went away and left you,
Left luck and happy days.
I long to be, I long to be,
Back in your arms always
I lost my heart . . . .

Oh, you know that song?!??? ;-) We sang it in our choir once (which sings classical music, normally).

Yes, Heidelberg is really beautiful! And we have also many tourists from Asia here, taking souvenir photos in front of the castle :-)))

Greetings,

Normann

Icewine replies:
Dear Normann, I don't know the song but I knew a poem written by Goethe, in Chinese translation: "我把心儿遗忘在海德堡. 在一个温暖的仲夏夜. 我的耳朵也充满了爱情", pity that I could only find one sentence of this poem in German: “Ich habe mein Herz in Heidelberg verloren.”
Maybe the song you mentioned was edited from the same poem?

Greetings & Have a nice weekend!

EinTon replies:
Hmmm... ...yes, that could be the one.

Especially this sentence:

我的耳朵也充满了爱情

(Google translator) could be the translation for the sentence

"Ich war verliebt bis über beide Ohren"

which means literally "I´m (sunken) in love up to the ears"

But I don't think the lyrics have its' origin in a Goethe poem - they were written by Beda and Ernst Neubach. Goethe is "art poetry" while this is an entertainment/popular song from 1925

Here you can find the lyrics:

And here you can listen to the song :

I wish you a nice weekend, too - I have a cold today , and I hope that it soon will disappear...

Greetings,

Normann

Dear Normann, Thanks for introducing the background of the song! I read your link of lyrics, and love this song so much! Thank you! Pity that I can not listen to it from your recommended link today for unknown reason of internet connection, I will try later.

Because I read the sentence "I'd lost my heart in Heidelberg forever" many many years ago, Heidelberg remains mistery to me all the years:-)))) I hope one day I could go to see.......

Here in Beijing, we do have a big sunny day today after almost one week's snow! My dear friend, I hope the cold in your home place could be replaced by sunny days soon!

Most warm regards from Icewine:-))))

Thanks Normann:-)
I've ever attended a German and Chinese musician talk show in Beijing, noticed the comparison and different understanding about each country's music were so interesting! I myself do not have a music ear, most of the time I was touching by the lyrics than by music.......now I'am trying to feel the beauty of music:-)))))))

What kind of musicians where these Germans? Pop musicians or "classical" musicians??

Icewine replies:
It was held in National Grand Theater in Beijing. Both team were from classical fields. From Germany side, it was a group of four gentlemen with very formal black suits, aged from 20 to 35, and the tone of music and chorous were amazing. You don't have to understand German and could enjoy it:-)))) Chinese musicians were five beautiful young girls who played different traditional Chinese musical instruments, presenting several famous Chinese ancient music. They all were excellent.

Where they singers or did they also play instruments? And do you know which composer had written the music they played?

Sorry for asking so much, but I'm just curious... ;-)

PS.: Hehe, "Formal black suits" (or skirts/dresses for women) are the usual kind of dressing if you perform classical music, only female solists (singers as well as instrumentalists) have more freedom to chose colours here! ;)
