Goodbye to the "House that Ruth Built"...

Monday September 22, 2008 at 07:29AM

Many of you probably aren't familiar with what is going on in regards to Yankee Stadium being demolished and a brand new one opening for the Spring 2009 season, but I wanted to post this anyway as a tribute to "The House that Ruth Built".

This year is the first year that the Yankees aren't going to the post season since 1993 or 94...They have made the post season after that, under manager Joe Torre, every year untill this year. Joe was let go last year....

So tonight, when the Yankees paid tribute to the legacy of Yankee Stadium before they played their final game, I found it odd there was really no mention of Joe...

Anyway...back to the stadium...here are a few facts for those who are interested....

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yankee_Stadium

Following the tribute is a heartwarming clip from famous Yankee Yogi Berra.

I haven't had a chance to go to a game there for years, but many wonderful memories as a kid going to my first game with my Dad- nothing like walking through the tunnel for the first time and seeing the field! Too bad with all the good times and bad it has to be torn down - no place like it !!

Joe Torre is an extremely competent man...but new york...damn is a difficoult town for sports...it´s easier to be succesfull in other places rather than in the big Apple...and yes gratitude is not a priority...but i have another memory of the yankee stadium...i almost got arrested for having a beer with me in a bottle of glass...thanks God the cop´s name was Esposito and let me go :-)

New York takes care of there own Mass:)
The same thing almost happened to me....
Torre on the other hand, deserves to be there. The fans think so but obviously Steinbrenner doesn't. The fans will never forget what Torre has done for the Yankees. And if the Dodgers make it into the series playoffs, I will be for them 100%! If not, Tampa Bay has my vote;)

It was my second major leagues stadium after Ebbitts Field in Brooklyn, to which Yankee Stadium could hold no candle. But being a Dodger fan, I always hated the Yankees and do to this day. The fact that they left Joe Torre out of the tributes is unforgivable. Here's a guy who was as great a manager as Joe McCarthy and Casey Stengal and they leave him out. Clemens should not have been left out either. It shows that Yankee "tradition" is just a bunch of BS.

JoJo replies:
Yea...there's definitely a crack in the "tradition". I too was very surprised and miffed that Torre wasn't mentioned as well as Clemens. I'll tell you one thing though, I would love to see Tampa mash Boston and secondly, I wish Torre leads the Dodgers to the World Series!

Yes, I would love to see a freeway series: Angels Vs. Dodgers.

Or an EL series:

Cubs Vs. White Sox

Ciao JoJo! I just had the chance to be outside of the Yankee Stadium when I was in NY, there was a sold-out game so didn't have the chance to get in but... it's a nice memory! :-)

So... I am glad to have my little own memory of the "House that Ruth Built"...
