Sniffing Cayenne

Sunday October 19, 2008 at 08:25AM

I've been a little under the weather for the last couple of days and developed a helluva sinus infection which seemed to peak tonight. I couldn't breath out of my nose at all and my head felt like it weighed a hundred pounds....

I tried boiling a pot of water and stood there trying to breath in the steam with a towel over my head.....nothing. I tried the Vicks on my nose..... Nothing would work. The pharmacy was closed so I couldn't run over to grab some Sudafed. Needless to say I was at my wits end and was desperate to try anything.

I started googling sinus infections and that led me to natural remedies. Well I didn't have a neti pot or peppermint oil on hand but I did have Cayenne pepper. After reading up on a few stories of how sniffing a tiny bit of Cayenne pepper would definitely clear away any sinus infection, I thought I would give it a try.

Has anyone ever tried this? Let me tell you..I was extremely wary. I sprinkled the tiniest bit of Cayenne powder and then touched my finger lightly to it. Gave it a little sniff on only one nostril and then waited for something to happen. After about 3 seconds I started swearing and pressing my nose for the burn was unbelievable. It felt like that side of my nose was on fire! It lasted about 5 minutes but one thing I did notice finally after all the pain was that I was able to breathe out of that side. So....you know what happens next....

After about 20 minutes I was able to breath again from both sides. I had numb nostrils for about an hour but it was well worth the pain.

Hope this helps anyone in dire straights with a sinus infection.:))

Lol, would have loved to see that. But at least it worked, even if you looked like Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer for an hour or so :D
Hope you feel better now and that your nose is all right :o)

Also, some drops of Tabasco in warm water. Drink it, and it should have similar effects. Gotta love it...medicine au naturale! lol

Yikes Joann!!! I'm not sure if I'd go for that! The things we do, looking for relief. :-)
If I feel a cold or similar coming on, I swallow a small clove of garlic that evening before bed, with a glass of water. Don't chew it.....................
Someone else I know crushes a clove into a glass of milk, that way there's no bad breath the next day. I also use a product called Cold FX to boost the immune system.
I hope you're feeling better!

lolol... ouchy! i would recomment eating some hot hot home made salsa, but only cause its good for you. but saline solution works well. Garlic as john said is also a great way to up your immune system, but even better along with the others is Vitamin B-17(= hope you feel better soon.

Oh I LOVE hot hot salsa...no problem there!
Believe me, I take a bunch of vitamins everyday including B, C, E, Cal Mag, and Zinc when I'm feeling a little under. This cold just seemed to be unresponsive to anything...
Thanks Stock:))

pain repeating it for the other side too - i'm a coward and quite resistant

I never heard of sniffing it, but I will try that some time. I've always just eaten a lot of hot peppers when I have a nasty cold. It works the same way, maybe not as fast.
