we see a sculpture, colored in a bleached red - and there is that peanut- or kidney-shaped hole, which both show the depth of the sculpture and (even more important) a green background - this green could be leaves or something else, we don't know - the contrast of the two-dimensional monochrome surface and that green contrast is just fascinating - the organic form of the hole and that vivid green dominate the image and the eye gets automatically drawn to this spot - the image is well-balanced, the colors both contrast and match

the portrait is out of focus, the crop is unusual, the color is unnatural and there are some strange scratches running straight thru the photo - a total miss?
the contrary is true - the focal blur adds essentially to the uncertainty and vagueness this images transports - the gesture of the person indicates a deep emotion, which also remains uncertain -  the crop is perfect, the composition needs empty space above the head and the photographer did right to put the right eye of the person in the center of the image - the color is ambivalent, blue with a red tint - some parts are grey, some almost black - again uncertainty - the lightning-like scratches add abruptness, brutality, unfinishedness to the athmosphere
it's ambiguity make this a wonderful photo
