group/pool-feature announcement of ipernity

Wednesday June 20, 2007 at 09:49PM

i was aking ipernity-"officials" about the realisation of the group/pool-feature - here's their answer:

Hello Joe,

LOL... do you need some assurance about that ?

YES! what was told is TRUE! :)

groups are our first priority. We started coding them last week.

and as you may verify we are coding as fast as people moving to ipernity ;)

But we will propose something cool, hopefully, and we need a little more time. I guess 2/3 weeks.

Stay tuned!

Thanks for joining us.

Christophe.

i'm on the fence about groups but flickr users love them.... feels a bit like a popularity contest but the compliments are nice and i like them ; - )

Groups can be nice to find images you like and to discuss about. But I have to admit that I didn't like most of them on flickr lately. Just too overcrowded and dumping place. Many groups on flickr had more members than ipernity (which in no way is bad for ipernity!) :-D

@carsten
as you said: good to find images - specialised group can be a means for people who look for photos of similar style/interest - and this is (i think) the real importance of pools - so: let's look forward to this new feature here

This is good news, for sure. Groups can also be an efficient way to share experience and feedback on a more specific topic.
Another advantage over (personal) networks is that it provides a way for new people (outside the network) to get closer and eventually become part of the network.

@carsten I totally agree and I just hope that we will no do the same mistakes that happened at flickr... a group need a good administrator, that mean time for it.. or it wil turn into a dumping place!...

Thanks, Joe! This is great news as it's a place to connect with artists of similar genres. I love the groups that have a special angle -- e.g., urban abstracts or lines or galleries .... etc. What I came to dislike were the mediocre quality "award" groups with the humongous icons and 2 pages of rules. Wouldn't it be great to get all the good parts of the groups without the bad?

yes, groups are a little out of hand over there. What, you didn't like the mandatory seven comment Award group? ;-) The only thing I didn't understand was how to get into the MagicDonkey group. Must have been some special hay somewhere I didn't know how to feed. Looking forward to groups here for sure.
