Cherry tree leaves starting to change colour
We may have had all manners of weather today - rain this morning, then high winds at lunchtime, then heavy rain again this afternoon and now sun - the colours of Autumn (Fall to our American friends) have started to appear.............. I walked up the driveway a bit, even though it was really soggy underfoot with all the rain, and saw the beautiful leaves on my cherry tree already starting to change their colour............. Then I walked further up thinking about picking some apples fo…

Hartland Quay on a very windy day
My lovely neighbour Ann rang me up this morning and asked me if I'd like to go for a drive in the car this afternoon. Never one to refuse a lovely offer like that, I vervently agreed and got myself ready to face my public. We drove along the coast for about 15 miles to Hartland Quay. Now some of you who know me from Multiply will recognise the name as I have posted quite a few pictures of this wonderful place. For those of you who don't know this .............. Hartland Quay is a lovely place…

  • My daughter's going to Poland tonight

    - 30 Sep 2012 - 3 comments
Tonight my daughter is going to visit Poland for 5 days. She's one of many adults escorting teenage school children to visit the Holocaust places. Although this is going to be a very harrowing trip, I think it's so right for our children to see what horrors happened and realise that this is still going on now in various parts of the world. Hopefully this will make them feel sickened by what they see and during their lives make sure that they do all they can to prevent this happening again. Yo…

  • Have been thinking of cats I've had over the years

    - 30 Sep 2012 - 1 comment
Fred with Zisi & Pani when they were tiny
I have been blessed with having cats around me nearly all my life. My Mum used to let her cats have kittens and I used to have the kittens if she hadn't found good homes for them. She understood that there were a lot of unwanted cats, but people used to ask her if they could have a kitten when there were some ready, which in a way, made her think that maybe she could let her cat have kittens. My home is quite large really as is the garden. I am lucky to live on the outskirts of the town, so…

  • After the showers - a busy day!!!

    Lone rowan berry
Hiya folks, well today has been very busy for me. After the usual shower, this time I had to do my hair etc for a change as I was being taken out for lunch. Yvonne collected me at 12.30pm and we had to dodge the raindrops which were falling quite heavily. On the way past the coal bunker I noticed this tiny rowan berry............ I then saw a bunch of semi-squashed berries and they looked so bright against the dark brown wet surface that I just had to take a picture of them...........…

  • Thought I'd show how alike Pippin is to Ketley (Summer's cat)

    - 25 Sep 2012
    A sleepy cat
I have watched Ketley grow up from a tiny, fighting for her life, kitten and brought up lovingly by my friend Summer. She is now a beautiful elegant cat who is in her forever home with Summer. I could see how alike she is to my cat Pippin and have brought some photos over to you to show how alike they are. He's very sleepy here........... Looking very handsome........... Who can resist that face eh? Enjoying the sun and being a bit of a "tar…

    Old photo of Appledore quayside
Do you remember I put up some photos a week or so ago of Appledore? Well if you don't have a look at my blogs and you'll soon see them................ I came across some old photos and thought you might like to see this one of how the quayside used to look like about 150 years ago............ This is what it looked like then and this is what it looks like now........... Then I found a photo of my parents' shop in the 1960's........... And what it looks like now......…

  • A little glimpse of my home town...........

    The new bridge at Bideford
I realised that since I joined iPernity, albeit only a few weeks, that I have made some new friends who don't really know a lot about me or where I live. So I thought I'd show a few photos of my home town. This is a view of our new bridge which is near me. It's not a bad bridge and it doesn't spoil the view at all. This is the old bridge built in the 1300's. It has 24 separate arches which are of different sizes as the merchants of that time paid for their own arch, and obviously som…

  • My neighbour's gorgeous cat called Harry...........

    - 21 Sep 2012 - 1 comment
My neighbour Yvonne has a lovely c at called Harry. He's been very elusive in the two years we've known each other. He is such a gorgeous looking cat that I've been desperate to "catch" him unawares. Today after taking me to the local re-cycling centre to get rid of my huge box of cardboard bits and a large bag of plastic bottles, Yvonne asked me in for a cup of coffee, and there he was............. He's such a lovely looking cat and I just had to get a close up of his blue eye…

  • Fred and his wife have been and cleared that awful flower bed.............

    - 21 Sep 2012 - 1 comment
This top lawn is getting rather overgrown
Well Fred and his wife have been today and after two hours stated that they had done the flower bed. They only manage two hours each visit so they can spread themselves with other people who want their help. This is how it looked yesterday................. As you can see from the photo it certainly looks better. View from the other end yesterday................. This is how it looks now............. So when I'd seen this, I decided to see if I could take any photos…

  • Fred the Shed is coming tomorrow to annihilate the flower bed!!!!!!

This top lawn is getting rather overgrown
Just had a phone call from Fred the Shed and he has said that he's coming tomorrow with his wife and they are going to sort out my top lawn flower bed. Now originally this flower bed was full of nasturtiums, mombretia and had a rosemary bush. It was just a smallish flower bed which sort of curved. Over the past few years when I haven't been able to get at it and sort it out, it's sort of taken over............. I think someone has been visiting my garden at night and putting down "super-gr…

  • Thought you'd like to see what it looks like on the beach near me

    - 17 Sep 2012 - 2 comments
Now I don't live anywhere near a desert but I do live only about 2 miles from loads of sand, so I'm able to provide quite a few pictures for you. So here we go.......... Now the sand in Instow which is a small village on the joining of the two rivers, Taw and Torridge has lots of sand, even sand dunes. The holiday makers love swimming here and so do yachtsmen......... The River Taw has a few beaches along its banks which is a haven for wild fowl...…

Thought that would get your attention!!!!!!!!!! LOL Ron came to put up my curtain pole and I'd got all the various items I thought he'd need, all set up for him. The paintbrush and the paint, cos I thought the baton would need painting. Some "no-nails" adhesive to make sure it sticks to the wall, the step-ladder all ready for him. He set about sorting it all out and I came downstairs to let him get on with it. A couple of hours later and he was downstairs saying that it was all finished. H…

  • Just had a visitor

    - 16 Sep 2012 - 3 comments
Just had a visitor - Ron - my volunteer handyman. He came round to see if he needed to bring anything with him tomorrow when he come to put up my curtain pole. I had to take him upstairs!!! (get your minds out of the sewers please!) and show him where I want the pole put. Lucky he came really as he realised that he would need to get some wood (4"x1" baton) to put across the top of the window because the house is old and he doesn't know how good the plaster is to screw the pole into it!!! Good…

    Gorgeous passion flower
My neighbour has managed to have some really good results from her gardening prowess. She and her husband are out in their garden nearly every day if possible and I can only applaud their achievements. Here are some of their gorgeous flowers.............. A lovely passion flower that is showing off it's glory climbing around their porch.......... Now their fuschias are flowering and I just love this one................ I love this two toned one too................. Man…
