Well yesterday morning, we decided that as it was due to rain in the afternoon, we'd take advantage of the sun in the morning and go for a quick drive out. We only went about 3 miles to West Appledore. I've been here several times lately, but I used to live in Appledore many moons ago and it's a lovely little seaside village.

It's situated at the emergence of two rivers - the River Taw from Barnstaple and the River Torridge from Bideford. There are wonderful little unique streets and it's a haven for artists and craftspeople. There is one tiny street called Irsha Street, which is famous for it's very colourful houses.............

At the end of this road is the Lifeboat Station and we managed to find somewhere to park the car and walked down to the shoreline. Notice I've said shoreline and not beach, that's because there is no way what was at the end of that road could be even loosely described as a beach. LOL

We noticed that there was a sort of race going on amongst some boats, probably practicing for the regatta which is at the end of the month.......................

As you can see the weather wasn't too bad, although the wind did pick up in quick gusts every now and then - and boy did a man with his yacht have problems with his sail. It was a big sail and he was on his own and it flapped around like a demented dervish. LOL

It took him about 5 minutes to sort himself out - and of course boats don't have brakes do they - LOL. He eventually managed to get all ropes etc together and after a while composing himself, he sailed off to join the others.

The sea is lovely and clean - and it was such a joy sitting there in the sun watching the waves gently lap in.

There were lots of rock pools there too. So macro ready I decided to take pictures of them - and it wasn't long before Mickey joined me.......

I think he was very careful not to put a foot wrong here otherwise he's have gone a over t and I wouldn't have been any good for him [not being mobile enough and also not being able to move for laughing]..............

The pools were gorgeous tiny things.....

Do you remember last time I was here with Mandi I mentioned a lovely little house perched on the top of the cliff saying it was the old Coastguard House - well it's been done up and how.........................

I would love to have this place - to have a view like this all day..................

Also I noticed that the walls have been shored up along the seawall - talk about using a mis-match of building construction.................

Oh well that was our little jaunt outside. It was lovely and warm and the rain never came as promised by the weather people.....................
