Japanese trains

Saturday January 19, 2008 at 01:49PM

700 Nozomi Shinkansen
As well as the iconic high-speed Shinkansen bullet train, there are literally hundreds of other engine models running on JR (Japan Railways) and the other private lines.

All train services are now privatized in Japan and the efficiency of the service is unbelievable.

Japan now exports its trains. Taiwan bought the shinkansen technology and London will be running Japanese trains for the Olympics. The British, by the way, helped build the first railway in Japan from Tokyo to Yokohama.

A legion of committed train-spotting geeks assemble each weekend on station platforms around the country jostling for the best shots. I am now one of them and I love it!
