We establish self-knowledge by looking at our reactions to the stimulus we unavoidable run into in our relationship with other human’s and everything else.
Others do something or something happens and we react with anger, offend, happiness, surprise ect. Our reaction calls for reaction from those that get in our way and that calls for further reaction from us and this can go on for a long time.
We can imagine doing something in front of three people. One gets offended, another surprised and the third couldn’t care less.
What happened says nothing about us as such. Action is just an action. The reaction or respond of those watching could on the other hand tell them something about themselves if they dared face up to it.
Man is in fact mirror of man.
We are mostly one everlasting, uncontrollable, chaotic, reactions. Reaction is thought. We see something, are stimulated, we look in our memory for similar stimulus which we define and give a name and then send out as reaction in form of anger, offensiveness, happiness, surprise or something else.
While all this is happening we neither see nor hear what’s really going on.
If we would let go of our thoughts and just let the stimulus, others reaction, pass us without any hindrance from our, part there would be no reaction. And then we would hear and see what’s going on inside us as well outside us.
That’s often quite different from what we expect.
When we are unaware of what’s going on it controls our lives. For us to control something, anything, we have to see it first and we can’t see that which we don’t want to recognize inside of us.
And by that I mean to see, as to acknowledge what is. Not search for and make up something that is not real.
Endless reaction bears with it endless confliction which is in fact war, though small, which we could have avoided if we only dared.
We see and hear news about wars between groups and nations and get angry and frustrated over the stupidity of all that participate. That is reaction.
But we seem to be incapable of seeing the similarity in others doings and our own, our reactions to everything, all the time.
It’s a fact, what is inside of us is the same we send out to the world.
Wars, starvation, and other disasters should never come as a surprise to us. We are at war inside ourselves every moment of our lives, and we automatically send that war out to the world around us.
We should know it is ones greed that creates another’s hunger. All we own beyond what we need is taken from those who need. And we should not have to fight over measurement on what we really need and don’t need.
What is it we fear so much? How can we not let go of the stimulus when we know what horrors it creates for ourselves and others.
Reaction is thought and the root of all thoughts is I, I get mad, I get happy, I fight ect.
If there is no thought and then no reaction then the I will vanish. And loosing our importance, the I, is exactly what we fear the most.
We fear nothing more than being nothing.
The root of our fear is the idea, I will be something, rather bad than nothing and not let go of anything, no matter what. The delusion stands in the way of peace inside each of us as well out in the world. For the I is in fact a delusion, built up from memory and at the same time our prison and destroyer of peace.
To be nothing is total freedom. For when we are nothing we have nothing to loose, not belongings, importance, or anything else we can imagine and have therefore nothing to fear. And when we have nothing to fear we are at peace with ourselves and all other humans and all.
For peace is not outside us, it’s something we are. We are peace.
Is it not peace we crave for? Why then aren’t we peace?
