All about ass and animal

So I was invited to have a little braai (bbq for those non-Saffa's) with 2 of my housemates (2 brothers from Iran) and their 2 professors at their college. The day was fun - loads of great tasting chicken, salad, beer and fun conversation. So after playing some serious table tennis sessions with the one brother we all sat down to munch and chat. Well.... I had some ice left in my glass after I'd finished my pepsi so I started eating it, as per my usual habit. So the one brother says to me

"Thats bad for your animal"....

er....WHAT?! so the one professor says "what?"

So he says.... "The ass is bad for her animal."

Well.... we were in stitches when we finally figured out he was trying to say that the ice was bad for my enamel. Hilarious XD

I love popcorn.... more than I love chocolate, chips, sweets....hmm ok not more than biltong... but it's a close second. And now, finally, it's been proved that it's GOOD FOR YOU!

So boo to everyone who told me "Don't eat popcorn. It's full of calories. Its bad"

A Ballad of Weaselish Weasels [by Kenket, i think @ http://kenket.livejournal.com/]

Out through the roof
back through the hatch
skirt round the pond
crash the brer patch
away with me now!
we'll make it a day.
stealing our chickens
The Weaselish Way

you'll see flash of tail
light whisker--dark claw
a rustle of feathers
a crunch in the straw
you'll not find a print
we hide much too fine
just a smatter of blood
in the hay, should we dine

your dog will not bark
your door will not creak
your shadows won't quiver
we are masters of sneak
I dare you to blink!
when you look away
your plump little chicks
make for excellent prey

rage your fine temper
throw all your shoes
our patience is boundless
you'll fall for our ruse
your coop rests so sound
our feet are like snow
you'll see in the morning
we'll laugh and you'll know

we'll come back again
by the light of the moon
or by stark of sunlight
at quarter-past noon
whenever we fancy
we're peckish for hen
we'll return, see you there!
tho you won't see us then

Anniversary

It's a week since I had to take Gnasher to the vet. Had to sign a form giving them authorisation to dispose of him. It was awful. It felt like murder. I still feel sick thinking about it. I know it was the right thing to do. The best for him. I was being a responsible owner. Quality of life over quantity, as my work colleague put it, when she had to take her 18year old cat to the vet. It still sucks though. I'm sitting next to his little nest - can't seem to bring myself to clean it. I know I have to, but it's like I'll be losing him forever. I know I have to close that door, hold on to the memory of him...ah but it's so hard... so hard!

Damnit!

Who's watchin you....

I am a stone.

I do not move.

Very slowly,
I put snow in my mouth,
then he won't see my breath.

I take my time.
I let him come closer.

I have only one bullet.
I aim at his eye.

Very gently, my finger
presses on the trigger.

I do not tremble.

I have no fear.
I'm a big boy now.

My Crazy Day - Ag Mei [part 1]

Sketch VIP Booth and Toilets
Sketch VIP Booth and Toilets
So yes, a while ago I posted that I was having a freak-out and totally stressing. Well here's the story.

It was 8 May (Ag Mei - heh heh) and I'd been invited to lunch by one of our clients at work. Normally it's my boss that gets invited out, so this was a total surprise!! I'd been setting up brochures for this client for years and they thought it would be nice to treat me to a lunch.

Now, I was just thinking "Yeah, a nice quiet lunch at the Italian place round the corner" for example, but when I asked where we would be dining, she said it was a place called sketch ( www.sketch.uk.com ), off Oxford street in the centre of London. My next question was "and the dress code?", to which she just replied "oh sort of smart"

Well, that put me into "freak out" mode. Anyone who knows me, knows I'm not one for dressing up. I own 1 pair of high heels and not a skirt in sight! I'm comfortable in takkies (sneakers), pants and a Tshirt. Ask me to wear anything else and it throws me into the deep end, with no waterwings!!! So the day before I rummaged through my "extensive" wardrobe and found something to wear. Now all I had to do was worry about how to get there.

Well, the day finally arrived. I tried to work in the morning, but was really uptight and stressed out. Am I going to get there ok? Will I look ok? What will they think? Etc etc.... so I wrote my "freaked out" post, and then left to catch the bus. I got there ok, met them and then couldn't understand my worry - they were dressed pretty similarly to me (yay) and we headed in to the restaurant.

My word! It was like a different world. I had no idea that her boss actually owned the restaurant so they all knew her there. The Maitre d' gave us the history behind the place, took our coats and said we could go on a tour of the place. It has different rooms, all laid out for different functions. It was so impressive! The last room was the coolest ever. It was the VIP suite, which looked like a giant white egg with a curved staircase up either side. At the top of each staircase were 2 more eggs - these were the VIP loos. This, I was told, is where the band Girls Aloud had a photo shoot.

We then made our way to the upper dining hall. It was a wonder in mirrors and decor. My aunt would have loved it - she likes restaurants that have real table cloths on the tables! All the waiters were French so I did my best to understand what they were trying to tell me. They gave us water. They brought us pink champagne (yes, the proper stuff!!) They gave us a selection of 5 different types of breads (one that had herbs in it, one that was wheat, a potato one, a ciabatta type one and a cheesy onion one) and 2 kinds of butter in the middle of the table. Very strange. One was a little square block and one was a cone shape... we then figured out that one was salted butter, the other unsalted - incredible!!

Zambian Tales [part 2]

So yes, this is part 2 of the tale.

Now in my last story, I ranted and raved about how bad the economy of Zambia was. I tore their load-shedding policy to shreds. It wasn't pretty, I do admit. So... I'm thinking "Comeback" in part 2...

Hmmm...!

Well D "went" back.... and now he wants to "come" back..... that's about all I can muster!!!

So where was I... well, in part 1, I'd made a list of all the great things that D had "experienced" whilst being in the wondrous land of Zambia, less than a month, I add. Super things, like getting bitten by random creatures, going to hospital, getting half mugged....etc etc... Well, this next one just takes the cake!

D was mugged...again...at knifepoint...in broad daylight...in the middle of town...!

Yes...mugged...again! Luckily (I'm assuming) the police caught the 2 attackers, as D and them all ended up at the police station. The police said that yes, D had used force, when they saw the one attacker had a broken jaw and the other had broken ribs, but they concluded D did it in self defence..... when they found the big knives the attackers attacked him with!! Incredible!

All I said was that I just said I'm glad D knows how to defend himself!! Can you imagine?!!!

It just reiterates my complaint about being white equalling being rich. Don't they get it??!! If you are white it doesn't mean you are! I'm not rich - I just have a few rich friends! And many of them are black!!!!!! And these big organisations and charities that ask for aid and help for Africa - what do they show on the TV??? Poor, sick, BLACK people!!! What about the poor, sick WHITE people??!! They make it seem that "oooh, they have to "step in" because "us rich white people" are not taking care of the "poor black people".... what about the schools and hospitals the government built which black people burned and ransacked??!! What's the point?! They say they were given no opportunities - uh.... how you going to have opportunities if you're going to burn, steal and ransack everything?! I hated school, but I didn't burn the place down?! I worked flippin hard to get where I am today, and that's not much... but at least I can say I worked for it! I would hate to be a black person and only be given the job because I was "filling the colour quota" - how degrading!!!!!!

Anyhow... I digress...

So yes, D is still alive, thank goodness!!

Fun in the Dark

So yes....here I was a few days ago, being all sarcastic and ripping the whole "load-shedding" thing to pieces (which was fun, I do admit sheepishly) when VOILA! the rug was pulled from under my feet.

Well, since I now have SOOO much free time on my hands (ha ha!) I've been doing babysitting for a friends of mine who have 4 cool kids. So I head over last night to sit for them. The 3 youngest were put to bed and the eldest girl was allowed to stay up a little later. So they got ready and no sooner had they stepped out of the door and driven off when....

*flicker*

*flicker*

blackout!

Ha ha! Yup - no electricity! Well, first we thought it may have been the dishwasher that tripped only our power but upon standing at the window like meerkatte we noticed that the whole place was out...except for one random streetlamp which was still on....!

Well, taking it all in our stride, next thing was to find the matches. Now since I'd seen her mom take matches from one of the drawers on this chest we started rummaging....in the light of my trusty mobile phone (*mwah mwah* love you phonie!) but didn't find them. Next my ward thought of the "lighter stick" (you press the button and use it to light stoves with the spark...don't know the name of it...) but couldn't get a flame. Then when all hope was lost... little bright spark remembered seeing her mom put on the shelf above the stove *phew* found some!!!!!

So we went around lighting candles which was fun. We chatted a bit, ate some fruit and just as I was saying "ok now it's time for bed"

*glare*

power on!

1 and a half hours later

So all the kids in bed I was left to my own devices (which included having some supper (finally) - I wasn't about to try warm spaghetti bolognese with a candle now!! heh heh - and chillin, though no tv cos the sound was bust) It was fun just sitting and relaxing until they returned and we had a good laugh about it all.

Since the weather was rotten, I got a lift home and while chatting in the car it came out that only a few days prior my friend was contemplating where to put matches and wasn't sure where...finally decided to keep one box above the stove.... *grin*
