professional? or amateur?

Tuesday October 9, 2007 at 04:41PM
it's funny, how people are impressed if someone calls himself a "professional" photographer, painter, actor - whatever. For me it only means that someone earns his or her money with their creativity - nothing more. Regarding to my own definition I'm NOT a professional photographer (only a fanatic amateur) but I'm a professional graphic designer. I still have no idea how my camera works and - embarassing enough - for quite a while I only used the "automatic button" to get reasonable photos. I'm glad that I know everything about Photoshop to compensate that lack of knowledge and make some nice pictures :-)) I don't care if someone is a professional or not as long as they have interesting creations. I've seen many "professionals" who produce the worst crap you can imagine and - on the other hand - I know "amateurs" where I'm in awe of their skills and talent.

I totally agree with your post. You don´t have to be a professional to "have the perfect look" for an object, only as you say: a fanatic amateur.

if anybody knows anything about Photoshop I would say he is a super brain. I know nothing about Photoshop. Nevertheless it is not important what we "creative people" do have as instruments - it is our creativity which makes it! Oh, thanks for your visit - I didn`t suppose to meet such an interesting blog. Ciao Carla

Carla, Photoshop is easy, you must only make some experiments, and then it goes. But you're right, it's not important, but it can us support. Greetings Siegbert

I mean the same too - you must have heart and soul - nothing is better to shot the best photos. And for this you can take all cameras, handys too. I thank you Harald020 for this blog.

Thanks. I'm glad that I have not to earn my living as photographer. I'm an amateur but that doesn't mean that I don't use my brain or don't try to get a "perfect" picture.

But if someone earns his living with taking pictures (maybe being paid by you) you expect a higher quality than otherwise.

Well, Modigliani was unable to earn his money with his creativity. And he would drink away the little he earned...
