Ipernity annoyance...

Sunday July 1st, 2007 at 10:27PM

So we found an alternative home to Flickr here on Ipernity.

I like how innovative they are with new features and their fast responds times to my questions.

But it is not all happy, happy, joy, joy!

In the past 4 days, I have been having serious problems uploading and even accessing ipernity. Sometimes I was not able to upload a photo for hours! Maybe this is still to Alpha stage to really rely on it. Not to mention to actually sign up for pro yet.

Also, I am really missing the reach that Flickr has. OK, we are here to make this site grow, but I am looking for a reliable service, and not another frustrating technical experience.

Maybe I am a bit hard on them, but I think there should be ample space for critique, when a new service wants to good enough to play with the big guys. Just beeing innovative does not help if there is a lack of performance and reliability...

I had no problem until now. Sometimes there a some technical problems. But in my last two years at flickr there were masses of glitches, bugs and heavy upload-problems. That´s normal.

During the last week, I've seen sometimes pages with high response times ... and once, the service was not available for a few minutes but that's not too bad. According to the team, there were some flood attacks against Ipernity's servers but this has been fixed now.

Actually, they also plan to do some service maintenance this week. To stay in touch, it's a good idea to subscribe to their team blog: www.ipernity.com/blog/team

Thank you for leting me know about their blog.

I was not able to enter Ipernity yesterday for about 2 hours! And in the past week, there were serveral occasions where the uploads did not finalize.

So I am afraid, they can not handle the amount of new members and the big amount of bandwith eating video...?

Not sure. As announced by them, they had a small cut at 14:30 today and since then, the response time is really fast :-)

Erinnere Dich doch mal an die vielen, vielen "Hick ups" von Flickr ;)

The Hick Ups were not nice either, but they were explicit - Flickr told about it and did not allow anyone to do anything on their site. Ipernity has some serious problems but doesn't take the site down (with some exceptions). This is worse than Hick Ups.

I've had some upload problems, too, all over the time. I'm pretty sure that there's something with their JavaScript code that is very fragile.
