Having completed Iyengar yoga teacher certification last year, this year I've been able to attend for the first time Alan Goode's professional development course. I spent last weekend (Fri to Sun) at Yoga Mandir in Canberra with other teachers and teacher trainees under Alan's direction.

It was a really valuable experience for my teaching. The group is quite large now but the mixture of activities and different levels of experience seemed to work reasonably well. There were practice sessions, theory sessions, teaching and feedback, interview times with Alan, group exercises around sequencing, timing, technique and repetition. These last sessions were particularly eye-opening, to see just how different sequences can be given the same poses, not simply in terms of the order of poses, but also the whole purpose of the asana class.

The feedback on my teaching (from other teacher trainess) was also very helpful, highlighting the positive aspects of my teaching but also giving me some things to work with.

I also got to catch up with some of my old classmates, Adene and Anna, which was fantastic. They've both had children as well, so must be something in that Yoga Mandir water.

Anyway, I'll be back to Canberra for sure.
