take photos?
Is it a simple question? Or do you have to think about it before you can answer?

for me, i guess it is the closest thing i have to meditation. I just see (and normally in B&W!) frames and shades and tones and photos in everything when i am in the mood. no thinking, just feeling. It allows me to see beauty in things not apparent, to record how amazing the world can be, in positive or negative ways. it's an outlet for creativity, and expression. most of all....it's fun.

I am a visual person, but I can't make a decent drawing,
so photography is very good.
Also it makes you look and think about reality,
you don't really need a camera to look and think, but it helps.
GiNa P. replies:
And then we can be lucky if we can see the world more sensible without a camera.

One photographer said once
"If i knew how to tell what i think, i wouldn't make photo"
I think it's a similar reason ...

But in fact, photography let me have a better grasp of reality. It let me see through the outer surface and discover other worlds, which are essentially my projections. In other words: photography lets me discover myself
I quite agree with Tuvalu in this one. But he described it way better :)

Sometimes I take photos because there is some special photo I need to realize an idea.

First of all, I don't take photos, I make pictures.
I do so for different reasons
- accessing my unconscious (sometimes, in the process of post processing)
- looking at a world that seems too well known with an open, unbiased mind.
- the moment. NOW. Magic. Can't explain, it's a feeling.
- having an occupation
- enjoying sharing them, receiving nice comments and writing nice comments
- the illusion of doing something very important, thus being very important. Yes, I want to make VIPs (very important pictures) ;)
- sometimes I don't feel like making pictures at all and have a break
Why do you ask? Do you have doubts? Must everything we do have reasons, a goal, an effect?
Isn't it enough to simply enjoy doing something?
GiNa P. replies:

pimlicopro says:
I'm new on ipernity. I began by uploading a dozen pictures for family. But I have decided to upload a number for general viewing. Maybe the pictures "aint too good", but some of the places and people ought to be of interest, I hope. ( Some time next week).

I love being able to express myself. I can show how i feel, but also show my thoughts.
I love the way you can take a scene and show it as it truly is, or use techniques to show how you see it in your mind. I used to see in b&w all the time, but digital has made me look at the world in colour when taking photos. Now i can choose how i want the world to look.
I love it when i have an idea and can then go out and make the image real.
I love to be able to document a place, or an event. Whether it's my home town, or the countryside, a trip away with friends, or a protest. A photo can capture the moment in a way no other art form can. It doesn't make it better, but it's the that suits me best.
I love the way a photograph can bring back memories, sometimes sad, but also wonderful memories.
I love to look through the lens and see the world differently to how the eye can see without it, and then capture that view.
Photography, like most art, helps us to look at the world around us in a way people often don't. My friend Pixi has said as much after just a few times out with me.
I could ramble on and on, so i'd better stop before i become a bore :-))
