A rare find!

Thursday April 17, 2008 at 06:44AM

Walking along by the side of the river in Bedford I happened to spot this little fellah. Initially I almost missed it cos I thought it was a branch sticking up out of the water. But then it moved! Wow!

Never seen one like this before, not along there anyway, so I was real pleased to capture it, even though the pic may leave something to be desired technically speaking.

Just wish I knew a bit more about birds cos I haven't got a clue what he/she is. Heron? Crane? Dunno!

(More about this session at Adventures of an Idiot)

Heron, A very mystical bird and part of the crane family, so you were right on both accounts.

Cheers Gary. Thought it might have been something like that but wasn't sure, so I was aware of the distinct possibility of making a right silly ass of myself by suggesting it. ("So what's new?" I hear you ask.)

Dunno whether that's now a favourite haunt of theirs or not but when I used to go for fairly frequent walks along there a few years ago I'd never seen one there and neither have I ever seen one on the river east of the town. So I count myself extremely fortunate!
