I am so sorry I couldn't let you know before we left because I was too busy trying to finish up all kinds of works, then the PC was unplugged in case a storm may hit it like last time when we were not there. We came back to an empty fridge and the yard full of debris. We lost 2 halves of two oaks, one big limb of one fell on the other causing the lost even of a branch on a third oak! After everything comes back to normal, I will put in the pics of Chicago, Manhattan, Alexandria, Washington, and New-Orleans that we saw during our 2-week vacation.

Je n'ai pas pu vous dire au revoir avant de partir parce que j'avais trop de choses à faire, puis le PC a été débranché au cas où un ouragan le détériore comme c'est arrivé la dernière fois que nous sommes partis. Nous sommes revenus fourbus pour retrouver un frigo vide et un jardin (surtout derrière la maison) couvert de débris. Une énorme branche d'un chêne (la moitié de l'arbre) est tombée sur une énorme branche d'un autre, ce qui a entrainé dans la chute une 3ème branche d'un 3ème chêne! Un beau dégât et une montagne de feuilles et un trou où on peut voir le ciel. Quand tout sera déblayé, je vous mettrai les pics pris à Chicago, New-York, Alexandria, Washington et la Nouvelle-Orléans pendant nos 2 semaines de vacances.

I am really confused. Last time, I looked at the number of my visits, it was 49 500 something and as the visits seemed to be slow, I thought I had time to invent some "entertainment" for that day...like a virtual picnic in Half-Moon Bay served by Marilyn Monroe...I put the pic in and the next thing I look at "my visits" number, it was way passed the mark!!!! I am so sorry for our missed party. Can any of you tell me if he or she was the 50 000th visitor? Of course, dear Anonymous I take your thought for!

Je suis vraiment confondue. La dernière fois que j'ai regardé au nombre de mes visites, c'était 49 500 et quelques, et comme les visites paraissaient avoir ralenti dernièrement, j'ai pensé que j'aurai le temps de vous préparer un picnic virtuel à Half-Moon Bay servi par Marily Monroe. J'ai donc mis mon pic dans mon blog et attendais le moment propice pour l'annoncer....mais à ma stupéfaction, le 50 000 ième est passé depuis un bon bout de temps!!!!! Je regrette beaucoup notre party manquée. Est-ce que le 50 000 ième visiteur ou visiteuse peut me dire qui il ou elle est? cela me consolerait. Je trouverai bien quelque chose à lui offrir. Naturellement, mes chers Anonymes, je vous offre mes pensées.

Our PC doesn't work anymore for nearly a week now. The 4th of July long week-end has delayed everything. The hard disk is broken (you know what that means!!!) and it may not been possible to replace it because HP does not make Vectra 2000 anymore (neither service it). So, I go to the library (which was closed because of the holidays) but won't be able to upload anything. I don't know when the ordeal will be over? Shopping for a new one anyhow. I will try to be online as much as I can to say hello and see your pics. So wish me luck!

Notre ordinateur est casse depuis une semaine deja! Le disque dur est foutu. Je vais perdre mes derniers enregistrements. Je vous ecris de la bibliotheque qui a une vingtaine d'ordis, mais je ne pourrai pas upload quoique ce soit (quel est le mot deja?) et il n'y a pas d'accent non plus! Wassili Kandinsky is my favorite painter. I am showing here a few of his paintings with the music from Polytopia, VARIANTS I written and played by Mari Kimura who created the piece for the 1994 Helsinki Festival. She is a pionner in the field of acoustic instrument and electronics. She is currently teaching a graduate class in Computer Music Performance at Julliard.

WASSILI KANDINSKY est mon peintre favori. J'essaye de montrer ici quelques-unes de ses peintures accompagnées par la musique Polytopia qui est pour Violon et Electroniques. Cette pièce a été créée et jouée par MARI KIMURA pour le Festival d'Helsinki en 1994. Elle est parmi les créateurs dans le champs d'instrument acoustique et électroniques. Elle enseigne en ce moment à Julliard.

In English: Today Easter, april 12th 2009, it was said that the Rebirth of the Phoenix is through its ashes. Like the Phoenix, the Rebirth of the Firebird is through the breaking of its chains. So, for EASTER, the Festival of LIGHT, RESURRECTION and RENEWAL, I wish ALL MY FRIENDS and the "ANONYMOUS" and their FAMILIES to find ENLIGHTMENT.

I found finally this excerpt in the Firebird of Igor Stravinsky played by the Kirov Orchestra, St Petersburg, called the Infernal Dance that seems to illustrate the Firebird struggle to renew its life.

En Français: Aujourd'hui, le 12 avril 2009, c'est Pâques. On dit que le Phoenix renaît de ses cendres. Comme le Phoenix, l'Oiseau de Feu renaît quand il peut s'échapper de ses entraves. A ROBOT to replace me when I a…

I have been lately under a lot of pressure for being tired all the time and having too much to do. So we are going on vacation to the North-East of USA and Vancouver for a couple of weeks. I have tried to update my docs on Ipernity and tried to see you all and answered all your comments. I even found a REPLACEMENT for me during that time : a "cybernetic human" HRP-4C, the latest innovation for stand-in. I hope you will enjoy her stay and her work. Tell me when I come back. In any case she has "long arms".

EN FRANÇAIS: J'ai été très occupée dernièrement et toujours trop fatiguée. Nous avons décidé de partir en vacances pour 2 semaines et aller en Oregon, Washington et Vancouver et les îles au large du Canada. Je vous ai trouvé un REMPLACEMENT qui est la dernière trouvaille en cybernétique et j'espère qu'elle pourra remplir mes fonctions. Dites-le moi quand je reviendrai. En tout cas, elle a "les bras longs"!

Large Synoptic Survey Telescop…

The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) when fully operational in 2016, will start producing a 10-year-long movie of the heavens, shot from a mountaintop in Chile by the telescope's digital camera, the biggest and most accurate ever built. Its images, organized by the most powerful processors and software will be accessible to all via the Internet. This will result in more information for amateur astronomers, sparks schoolchildren's interest in science and a host of applications. THE TELESCOPE'S FIELD OF VIEW WILL BE 3,100 TIMES LARGER THAN THAT OF THE HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE, ACCURATE ENOUGH TO DETECT LIGHT BOUNCING OFF A GOLF BALL ON THE MOON! Each image will have more than 3 billion pixels and the telescope will produce 4,320 new images every 24hrs. For the LSST to work properly, all 3 billion pixels must be read out in 2 seconds. The digital information stored will be equivalent of 2 billion filing cabinets' worth of text. The LSST will require more than a 1 000 of the fastest processors, a huge data storage capacity, advance software, and highly integrated electronics to read out 16 parallel data streams while avoiding system overheating. For example, to sort through and classify data requires 5,000 mathematical operations per pixel.!

All images will be transmitted from the LSST atop Cerro Pachòn in northern Chile to the National Center for Supercomputer Applications at the Univ. of Illinois, where they will be processed, stored and disseminated with the help of Google and others, and eventually those pics will be available through an Internet search engine.

EN FRANÇAIS:

Quand LSST sera en pleine opération en 2016 il produira un film d'une longueur de 10 ans du cosmos pris du sommet de Cerro Pachòn dans le nord du Chili où le télescope s'y trouvera. Les images reçues seront convoyées éventuellement à tout le monde intéressé à cette science par Internet. Le Champs de Vision de ce Télescope est de 3,100 fois plus grand que celui du Télescope Hubble, et sa Justesse est assez Forte pour Détecter la Lueur qui Jaillit d'une Balle de Golf Bondissant sur la Lune! Chaque image aura plus de 3 billion de pixels et le télescope devra produire 4320 images tous les 24 heures. Pour que le LSST puisse opérer efficacement, les 3 billion de pixels doivent être lus en 2 secondes...

Toutes les images du LSST, du sommet de Cerro Pachòn où il se trouve et elles seront relayées au Centre National de la supercomputérazition à l'Université de l'Illinois avant d'être redistribuées avec l'aide de Google et autres vers les centres intéressés.

This is a potage that will soothe your stomach if you have not been well lately...

Ceci est un potage qui tiendra votre estomac bien au chaud si vous ne vous sentez pas trop bien dernièrement...

Recipe: 3/4 cup of rice boiled in one liter of bouillon (no fat in it) until it looses its shape with:

1) 4 or 5 head of garlic crushed,

2) a ginger root (the size of a golf ball or less according to taste) very, very fresh, peeled, sliced paper thin and cut in strips, right away at beginning of cooking.

3) a small carrot, cut in matchsticks, put in 20 minutes after beginning cooking.

4) a small fillet of rock fish or tilapia, cut in 1 inch size, a green onion (green and white parts) cut across thin with Chinese parley (un petit bouquet) cut up too. You put number 4 in when your potage looks ready and you cook the potage 15 min. more.

5) Taste to see if your potage needs seasoning. Serve with a dash of lemon and a sprinkle of black pepper.

Recette (en français):

Bouillir 3/4 d'une tasse de riz avec 1litre de bouillon jusqu'à ce qu'il devienne du gruau et y ajouter dès le début, 4 ou 5 têtes d'ail pilé, une racine de gingembre (de la taille d'une boule de golf ou moins selon désir) très fraîche, pelée et coupée en lamelles très fines et retaillées fin dans la longueur.

20 min. après ajouter une carotte moyenne, nettoyée et coupée en allumettes.

Quand le potage a l'air prêt, ajouter un filet de tilapia ou dans le genre, coupé en morceau de 1,5cm, un oignon vert (partie blanche et verte) coupé fin avec du persil chinois coupé (1cm) aussi.

Servez chaud avec du poivre noir et quelques gouttes de citron.
