Istanbul Toy Museum

Monday March 16, 2009 at 11:00AM

Turkish poet and author Mr. Sunay Akın has opened the first and the only private toy museum of Turkey on 23.April.2005. This opening date was not chosen randomly. April 23rd is an important day in the history of the Turkish Republic. It was on this day that the Grand National Assembly first met in 1923. It is also when the country simultaneously celebrates National Sovereignty and Children’s Day. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, dedicated this important date to the children of the world.

What a great idea Atatürk had to celebrate the children of the world. They're always the first innocent victims of our so called "civilized world" conflicts.
I understand the admiration of the Turkish people for their "nation's father"...
Great idea too to open such a museum to give children the opportunity to discover toys in a place they can call "their" museum... :-)

for an Aussie, Atatürk was a gracious and generous man in the dedication of Gallipoli to our fallen. I will always think of Turkey with fondness because of this
